Zenless Zone Zero’scombat is fast, fluid, and somewhat frantic, and as shallow as it may seem on the surface, it is actually quite nuanced. There’s a lot more to this game than just dodging attacks and mashing buttons, and much of that has to do with Energy management and ability usage.
Energy is a term that HoYoverse fans should be aware of by now. It’s present in most of their games, and it’s back as one of themost important things to master inZenless Zone Zero.If you’re a new player, here are some important things you need to know about how Energy works in this game.

This guide covers the basics of Energy, the resource characters use to execute special moves. This does not cover Battery Charge, which isZZZ’sequivalent of Resin or Trailblaze Power (player energy/stamina).
What Is Energy In Zenless Zone Zero?
Energy refers to the bar below your characters' health bars, and it’s used to power EX Special Attacks. These are significantly stronger versions of Special Attacks, and they often define a character’s playstyle. Needless to say, Energy plays an important role for certainZenless Zone Zerocharacters like Ellen, whose DPS output skyrockets whenever she uses her EX Special Attack.
Unlike inGenshin ImpactorHonkai: Star Rail, Energy inZZZis not used for casting Ultimates. For those, players will need Decibels, a resource that’s shared among all characters in a mission.

How To Gain Energy
Almost every combat action your character does will contribute to their Energy build-up. This includes basic attacks, Chain Attacks, Dodge Counters, Perfect Dodges, and so on. They’ll also regenerate energy passively regardless of whether they’re on-field. The best way to build Energy is to keep attacking while performing as many combat maneuvers as possible.
There’s also an Energy Regen stat for all characters, and players can increase this in a variety of ways. The most obvious method is to use W-Engines or Drive Discs with the Energy Regen stat. There are also character buffs, Mindspace bonuses, andskills performed by Bangboos.

As of writing, it’s unclear just how much the Energy Regen stat actually affects characters. However, the effect is noticeable, and we highly recommend giving Energy Regen to Support characters like Nicole or anyone else who doesn’t spend much time on the field. Those who do get a lot of field time (namely, the DPS units) don’t need Energy Regen as much since they’re the ones doing all the fighting.
