Zeldafans have been hard at work digging through every bit ofBreath of the Wildtrying to find clues as to whatTears of the Kingdommay have in store, and one player may have done just that while exploring the Gerudo Highlands. The highlands are home to thegraves of the seven Gerudo Heroines, warriors who serve as representatives of the qualities Gerudo value most about their people. However, the legendary eighth protector continues to be a mystery hanging above the desert-dwelling people which, if this new discovery is indeed a link to the new game, may finally give players some answers.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis the latest entry in Nintendo’s long-running adventure series, serving as a direct sequel to the hit 2017 gameBreath of the Wild.Tears of the Kingdompicks up sometime after the defeat of Calamity Ganon and sees Hyrule under threat from a reborn Ganondorf, making his first proper appearance in aZeldagame since 2006’sTwilight Princess. Players will need to explore Hyrule, along with the mysterious skylands floating above the region, if they hope to stop Ganondorf’s latest play for ultimate power.

TheEighth Gerudo Heroinewas first mentioned inBreath of the Wildafter players completed The Seven Heroes Shrine Quest, sending players to a valley located between the Risoka Snowfield and Hemaar’s Descent. It is in this region players discover a Goddess statue like the ones seen with the Seven Heroines' graves, though little else is known about this heroine other than hints they may have had some sort of conflict with the other heroines which led to the eighth being separated from the rest. Reddit user TheEggRoller took a closer look at these graves and discovered one sported what appeared to be a tear with a red backdrop, which may hint at a possible connection to Ganondorf.
In themost recentTears of the Kingdomtrailer, Ganondorf can be seen with one of the tears seemingly embedded in his head and using its power against Link. The discovery led some users to speculate that either the tear Ganondorf is using previously belonged to the heroine or, in a more sinister twist, the heroine had some sort of relationship with either Ganondorf or Calamity Ganon and played a role in the Eighth Heroine’s separation from the others. Other users pushed back, arguing the discovery is more likely coincidental and won’t play any role inTears of the Kingdom’s narrative at all.
WithTears of the Kingdomonly a few weeks out from release, players won’t have to wait long to find out if this discovery is directly linked to the game or just a red herring. It won’t stop players from continuing to explore Hyrule in the hopes of finding more clues about what they will face in the sequel toBreath of the Wild. Either way, thereturn of Ganondorflooks to bring with it a new era of chaos Link, Zelda, and the rest of their allies will need to rally against to once again save Hyrule.
The Legends of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis scheduled to release on July 30, 2025, for Nintendo Switch.
