Summary
TheGears of Warfranchise is seemingly on ice, but not if Zack Snyder has anything to say about it, as the director revealed his desire to bringGears of Warto the big screen. Although Cliff Bleszinski, the franchise’s creator, approves, he has one request.
Fans have unfortunately been met with silence by The Coalition over the past 2 to 3 months since theGears of War 6NVIDIA graphics card leak, but that doesn’t mean something isn’t brewing behind the scenes. Bleszinski is known for speaking his mind about the franchise, including that ifGears 6does happen, Marcus “HAS TO DIE." Now he has more to say after news that Snyder wants to direct aGears of Warfilm.

Snyder revealed the epicRebel Moontrailer at Gamescom, and during the event, he and his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, were interviewed byIGNabout the upcoming Netflix film. IGN asked what video game franchise they would like to bring to the big screen if given the opportunity, and after a brief pause, Snyder saidGears of WarandHalo, stating that discussions about these franchises were already happening within his circles. Bleszinski responded on X, saying he approved, but on the condition thatDave Bautista plays Marcus.
AGears of Warmovie was announced by Netflix, Snyder’s current place of work with theRebel MoonandArmy of the Deadfranchises. Bautista certainly looks the part of Marcus and expressed interest in playing the character before, and he already has a working relationship with Snyder fromArmy of the Dead. It could be that the stars would one day align for aGears of Warmovie under Snyder, a director with a unique voice in Hollywood that has garnered the support of a dedicated fan base. There is little doubt that the potentialGears of Warfilm would be a huge success given the large fan base of the video game and the director. However, judging by Bleszinski’s latest comments, the question remains if he would want that.
During the excitement under Bleszinski’s post, he agreed with a user who attacked fans of the director unprovoked, in which Bleszinski described Snyder fans as “insufferable.” This comes shortly after Bleszinski expressed his grievance with seeing Snyder appreciation posts on his X timeline, presumably includingthe Snyderverse fan campaigns, and fans defending the director’s work against criticism over the last 10 years sinceMan of Steel’s release. However, it may be considered odd for theGears of Wardirector to have spoiled the moment by antagonizing Snyder fans after learning he could potentially be leading the franchise forward onto the big screen.
