For a limited time, shoppers looking for anXbox Series Xconsole are in lock, as Walmart and Target in the US have discounted the console by $150, down to $349.99 at retail. While Target’s discount on theXbox Series Xis exclusive to Target Circle members, Walmart has made it available to everyone, but supplies are limited.
The discount came as a surprise on social media, with some users stating that the Xbox Series X/S still trailed the PS5 in overall sales. WhileMicrosoft lead Phil Spencer refuted that claimin the past and said that console sales are not indicative of success, the Xbox Series X/S has gradually become a way for gamers to enjoy Xbox Game Pass titles such asVampire Survivors,Starfield, and theHaloseries without breaking the bank. With the holiday season in full swing, Microsoft looked to double down on that trend with discounts on consoles at select retailers throughout the US.
Shoppers looking to save on the Xbox Series X console will get the bare essentials for a major discount and can add subscriptions later. For $349, both Walmart and Target Circle offer the base version of the Xbox Series X, which comes with 1TB of internal storage, an Xbox Wireless Controller with 2 Duracell AA batteries, an HDMI cable, and a power cable. However, Walmart also listedthe Xbox Series XDiablo 4bundleat the same price of $349. At the time of writing, both retailers had online delivery and in-store pickup options available for buyers. Walmart’s delivery timing ranged from December 16 to 18 at the earliest, but same-day pickup was available as an alternative for shoppers to consider. However, quantities remained limited.
Xbox Series X
Despite the deal, the timing of it means that buyers looking to get a new console before Christmas will not have much time to decide. The discount on the Xbox Series X brought it to the same margin asthe 1TB version of the Xbox Series S, which was released in September 2023. However, it is not known how long this major discount on the Xbox Series X will last, or if other retailers will match the offer from Walmart or Target. Savvy shoppers looking to price-match the offer will have to be vigilant.
With a plethora of physical and digital titles to pick from, andadditions to Xbox Game Pass periodically, the Xbox Series X looks to insert itself as a top holiday shopping item in 2023. Only time will tell how many shoppers take advantage of the deal.
