World of Warcraftfans are anxious for new content to be released for the MMO. The last major update came June 28, four months ago, with the release of the Chains of Domination patch for theShadowlandsexpansion. So when Blizzard shares a cryptic tweet,World of Warcraftplayers are quick to speculate about what may be in store. Helping to manage expectations, Blizzard went ahead and spoiled some of its own surprise. A presentation detailingWorld of Warcraft: Shadowlands' next content update will be delivered on Thursday, November 11.

The cryptic tweet remains a mystery and a focus of interest, however. The tweet features an eyes emoji and a #Shadowlands hashtag, but it’s the attached image that’s particularly interesting. There are three rows of glyphs, all of which are seemingly indecipherable. The glyphs spin and glow, but provide no clues as to their meaning. Each glyph is unique, with no single glyph repeated. If there’s a clue forWorld of Warcraft’s next patchin there, it’s not obvious.

Following theWorld of WarcraftTwitter post with the message written in glyphs, a follow-up tweet shared the news that an event will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 AM PT. This “glimpse” atWorld of Warcraft’s next chapter is confirmed to focus onShadowlands' upcoming content update. While the information shared by Blizzard doesn’t explicitly mention patch 9.2, that’s the update thatWorld of Warcraftplayers believe will be focused on, rather than another incremental update like 9.1.5.

As for whyWorld of Warcraftplayers believe this to be a major update, it has to do with the glyphs. Again, the image features three rows of glyphs, two with small glyphs and a third with large glyphs. Rather than this being translatable code,World of Warcraftplayersbelieve it’s simply obfuscating letters that will be revealed tomorrow. The top two lines will be the name of the patch and the bottom will be its release date. Since only major patches are named, 9.2 makes the most sense.

TheWorld of Warcraftcommunity is already celebrating the announcement by ruthlessly mockingBlizzardand its predictable announcement structure. A post on theWoWsubreddit offers up a BINGO card for the event. At its center, as a free space, is “BAD LORE,” though commenters note it could have just as easily been “We value your feedback,” which is in the card’s bottom right corner. Other spaces on the card include, “Sylvanas being annoying,” “MORE MAW!!!” and a new, “Store mount(s).”

WhileWorld of Warcraftplayers are largely teasing, there’s a lot of frustration surroundingWorld of Warcraftboth among its player base and at Blizzard. Patch 9.1.5 was a mixture of changes pivoting on player feedback from prior toShadowlandslaunch, as well asedits toWorld of Warcraftnames, emotes, and quests in response to intra-company allegations of gender discrimination and harassment.World of Warcraftis going through some serious changes. It’ll be interesting to see if those changes will be felt in tomorrow’scontent update reveal.
