While there, some keen-eyed players noticed a familiar face they never expected to see. Runas the Bright, a past version of thebelovedWorld of Warcraft: LegionNPC, appears near a stack of books as players make their way through the area. When spoken to, Runas says he does not recognize the character, but can sense a connection beyond his understanding before wishing the player well. Given how impactful Runas’ story was inLegion, players who discovered him here were shocked and delighted.

Better known as Runas the Shamed, this Nightbourne’s story was one of the most emotional moments duringLegion. The shady Nightfallen aids players during the storyline of Aszuna, but near the end of the quests, he succumbs to his mana starvation after an act of heroism and becomes a mindless Withered. Runas’ tragic fate has resonated with fans and developers alike for years, with his name still being evoked in recentWorld of Warcraftinterviews, and tributes to him showing up in places likethe Blue Dragon questline inDragonflight.

Players who have stumbled upon thisparticularLegionEaster eggwere beside themselves to see their old friend. He may not be their Runas, but seeing the beloved Nightbourne flourishing and happy, untouched by the Nightfallen affliction that took his mind, brought many fans to the brink of tears. Though likely little more than a cameo appearance, most agree it is nice to see thatWorld of Warcrafthasn’t forgotten Runas.

Patch 10.2, Seeds of Renewal, has had a lot of cameos in it. During the post-raid epilogue, some players havefound characters from as far back inWorld of Warcrafthistory as vanilla.
