Summary
Ghost of Tsushima 2has yet to be formally revealed, despite the near-constant and hope-filled rumors surrounding it. Even so, Sucker Punch likely knows it would be thoroughly disappointing fans ofGhost of Tsushimawhile simultaneously leaving money on the table if it didn’t develop a sequel to one of 2020’s best games, soGhost of Tsushima 2’s development is arguably all but officially confirmed. The only question is when it might be released, and before that, when it could be revealed.
Despite persistent hopes thatGhost of Tsushima 2could be revealed this year, it seems more unlikely by the day. This is largely due to the fact that not even a shred of official evidence has confirmed it is even in development. However, other things may factor in as well — specifically, some news shared by Sony about major PlayStation exclusives and the competitionGhost of Tsushima 2faces in a couple of2024’s upcoming games.

Why Ghost of Tsushima 2 Probably Won’t Be Revealed in 2024
Sony Is Holding Off on Major IP Exclusives Until 2025
During its fiscal year 2023 Q3 earnings briefing, Sony stated that it would hold off on releasing “any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year.” As the company’s fiscal year doesn’t end until July 04, 2025, this meansGhost of Tsushima 2won’t see the light of day until at least April 2025. As such, that means it’s highly unlikely to be revealed anytime soon, especially with 2024 already presentingGhost of Tsushima 2with plenty of unavoidable competition.
Ghost of Tsushima 2 Already Has Plenty of Competition in 2024
Another of the most obvious reasons there may not be aGhost of Tsushima 2reveal in 2024 is due to the competition it now faces in other, similar games. For example, Team Ninja’sRise of the Roninhas been relentlessly compared toGhost of Tsushimafrom the time of its initial reveal. Both games are set in feudal Japan andRise of the Roninappears to have combat mechanics similar toGhost of Tsushima’s, though itsAssassin’s Creed-like platforming certainly sets it apart. It may not make much sense for Sucker Punch to revealGhost of Tsushima 2this year, especially anytime close toRise of the Ronin’s release.
…Ghost of Tsushima 2won’t see the light of day until at least April 2025.
There’s also Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creed: Codename Redto consider, which has been talked about for quite a while now.Codename Redis arguably one of the most anticipatedAssassin’s Creedtitles in a long time, simply due to its setting being one of the longest-requested settings for the franchise.Codename Redwill reportedly be set in feudal Japan, just asGhost of TsushimaandRise of the Roninare. IfCodename Redlaunches in 2024, there will be considerable competition forGhost of Tsushima 2. Although it has only been reported through rumors and leaks, there’s a possibility thatCodename Redwill be released sometime in late 2024. If it doesn’t launch in 2024, an early 2025 release has also been suggested. Either way, it makes a potentialGhost of Tsushima 2reveal less likely.
It could very well be that Sucker Punch ignores every reason why it shouldn’t revealGhost of Tsushima 2this year and chooses to reveal it anyway, even if it isn’t released until 2025. However, a formal announcement might get lost in the attention garnered by other games likeRise of the RoninandAssassin’s Creed: Codename Red, assuming it releases this year. Furthermore, Sony won’t be releasing anyPlayStation exclusivesfor major existing IPs until next year, but perhaps Sucker Punch still at least announcesGhost of Tsushima 2via a teaser trailer or something of the sort. All of this, of course, depends on whetherGhost of Tsushima 2is indeed currently in development.
