Releasing all the way back in 2018,Sea of Thieveshas been entertaining fans for over five years now, and it shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. WhileSea of Thieveshasn’t always been the most popular live-service game out there, it’s continued to sail along, and over the last year or so it’s really started to ramp up its content drops.
Beginning in February 2022,Sea of Thievespresented a brand-new form of content in its Adventures. These Adventures were designed to be a set of narrative-driven missions that took place over the course of about a month, rewarding the player with unique cosmetics for taking part. Adventures continued to come toSea of Thieveson a monthly basis for about a year, and then in February 2023, they stopped suddenly, with Rare announcing a brief momentary pause. Thankfully, that pause is being rescinded, andSea of Thievesis set to get its next Adventure on July 15, 2025, titled “A Dark Deception.”

What Fans Should Expect From Sea of Thieves' Dark Deception Adventure
WhenSea of Thieves' Adventures were first announced back at the start of 2022, they were promised to be lengthy sets of missions that would progressSea of Thieves' story gradually over time, occasionally giving players choices that would drastically affect theSea of Thievesworld around them. And that’s exactly what Adventures turned out to be.
Over the course of a year,Sea of Thieves' story and world have come a very long way. Players who have participated inSea of Thieves' past Adventureshave seen brand-new factions arise, new points of interest appear on the map, and some outposts get completely overhauled, and that’s not even mentioning the year-long narrative. For those still invested inSea of Thieves, these Adventures are some of the exciting content drops of any live-service game, and it’s great to see them return withSea of Thieves' A Dark Deception Adventure.
The lastSea of ThievesAdventure players received was “The Secret Wilds,” which launched in January 2023 and lasted up until February. This Adventure saw players embark on a quest to find Tasha’s Cure. Along the way they ended up bringing aboutthe return of Captain Briggsy, one of the first pirates on the Sea of Thieves and now a Skeleton Lord. This Adventure also saw the return of the Dark Brethren, who make an alliance with Captain Briggsy, creating yet another faction for the Sea of Thieves' crowded waters.
Sea of Thieves' A Dark Deception Adventure will take players on a new journey, this time tasking them with seeking out a stolen Pirate Lord treasure. Before players can set off they’ll need to craft an enchanted compass with the Order of Souls, which sounds like it’ll be a task in and of itself. Though those are the only plot details fans know so far, the Adventure’s title alone is enough to suggest that things might not be what they seem, and there are sure to be plenty of twists and turns that tie in with the rest ofSea of Thieves' recent narrative developments.
WithSea of Thieves' Dark Deception Adventure being the first new installment in about four months, it seems likely that the content on offer will be pretty sizable. Players can probably expect a pretty lengthy main questline, along with the usual side missions that can be completed for extra rewards. Though, withSea of Thieves’Monkey Islandcrossoverdropping in just a month’s time, it seems more likely that Rare has dedicated most of its resources to that more expansive set of three Tall Tales.
Sea Of Thievesis available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
