Nioh 2is one of the best games of 2020 that unfortunately arrived at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic dominating the news. Launching March 13,Nioh 2delivered a sharp action-RPG experience building off the original game with prequel story that intertwines in interesting ways. Now Team Ninja is hoping to reignite that fire and hopefully recapture a wider audience four months later. Today marks the release ofNioh 2’s DLCThe Tengu’s Disciple.
The Tengu’s Disciplewill beNioh 2’s first major DLC release, but certainly isn’t the last. It features a variety of brand new content forNioh 2, including a new weapon named the Splitstaff and a new Guardian Spirit. There will of course be several new story missions and locations to visit, as well, including new enemies and NPCs along the way.

A variety of video content was made available alongside the release ofThe Tengu’s Disciple. Sony put out a minute-longofficial trailerfor the DLC, showing off some of the new enemies and encounters players will find. It’s a great way to get an impression ofThe Tengu’s Disciplewithout revealing too much or going too in-depth.
For those who do want a more in-depth look at the newNioh 2DLC,Koei Tecmoprovides. The Japanese publisher ofNioh 2recently released a 10-minute long gameplay demo forNioh 2’sThe Tengu’s DiscipleDLC. It’s much more spoiler-filled than the short trailer from Sony, however. But it’s perfect for those who may be on the fence about picking the DLC up.
The lengthy gameplay demo forThe Tengu’s Disciplestarts with a short cinematic sequence before moving to a breakdown of the DLC’s new weapon, theSplitstaff. The player shows off many of the Splitstaff’s basic combinations, including showing how the Splitstaff’s end can be launched to increase the weapon’s range. Altogether, it should make for an exciting and dynamic weapon forNioh 2players to try out.
After the weapon demo, the gameplay trailer plays through an entire extended gameplay sequence, including one ofThe Tengu’s Disciple’s boss fights. First, there’s a fun fight with one of the new enemy types, a giant enemy crab demon. A mid-boss fight follows, with a blue-eyed warrior who wields a variety of different weapons. Following that fight, the final boss is revealed. It’s a giant blob with a glowing head in the middle of it, reminiscent of theoriginalNiohbossUmi-Bozu .
The Tengu’s Discipleis available now, but it won’t beNioh 2’s last DLC. Two more big DLC expansions are planned forNioh 2’s future.
