South Parkcontinues to squeeze jokes out of the COVID pandemic and now its most recentPost Covidmovie is getting its due sequel withSouth Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covidheading to Paramount Plus next week.
South Park: Post Covidwas the first of many planned films created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who just this summer penned a $900m deal thatshould seeSouth Parklive on until 2027, as well as 14 feature films. Unlike 2020’sPandemic Specialor this year’sSouth ParQ Vaccination Special, the first movie features almost a full hour of runtime (59 minutes) that continues the storyline that was put in place with the former, albeit fast-forwarding 40 years into a very different and bleak future.

Judging from the first teaser trailer, the aptly namedPost Covid: The Return of Covidpicks up right where the previous film left off. As fans see, the now middle-aged boys venture out to find out just exactly what happened to Kenny, after the world-renowned scientist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist blamed them for the state of the future. When the new movie premieres on December 16, expect lots ofTegridy fun in this newSouth Parkentrybecause Randy seems hell-bent on fixing the very pandemic that he started.
The preview also shows the unlikeliest of all rabbis, Eric Cartman, possibly warning churchgoers of a plan to travel back in time before cutting to a shot of him, Stan, and Kyle apparently going back in time in the show’s signature tinfoil gear to possibly prevent their doomed fate. Although no official ratings have been shared by Paramount Plus, thePost Covidmovie did receive mostly positive reviews from critics, who praised it for its refreshed futuristic setting.
Still, the criticisms directed at the film for spending too much time setting upSouth Park’schaotic future should be tapered down for this next entry, as the show can now resolve its cliffhangers inThe Return of Covid. Despite this new announcement, there is still no word on when Parker and Stone will officially resume work onSouth Park’s24th season, which also hasn’t confirmed if the two previous pandemic specials are actually part of it.
In any case, thanks toSouth Park’s speedy production process, expect plenty of up-to-date references on the global state of the pandemic, as well as the show’s signature crass and politically incorrect humor. Also watch out for any events that might not make the cut, because Parker and Stone are sure to keep in store some material they can usein the nextSouth Parkgame.
South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covidpremieres on Paramount Plus on June 10, 2025.
