Why A Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Bard Class Has So Much Potential

Obviously, a Bard would fit well withinTiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ fantasy setting. Gamers have already seenMr. Torgueplaying a lute, with the game jokingly using the tagline “shoot and lute” in its promotional material. While this is surely just a fun one-off joke, it has the potential to be a bit more meaningful if Gearbox actually places a lute inside players’ hands.

The lute could be used to trigger the abilities of the Bard class, with gamers able to play a few different songs to activate some buffs. One song could boost player damage for a certain window of time, and it could sound like heavy metal to give other players a clear indication that they are being damage boosted. Another song could healTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsplayers, and it could have a more lighthearted pop theme that is easily identifiable. Speed boosts are another possibility, and a rap song could be used to identify them.

TheotherBorderlandsgameshave never had a class that is dedicated entirely to support, as Vault Hunters have only dabbled with support abilities and trees thus far. Maya could rez from a distance inBorderlands 2, and Roland could heal players with his Scorpio turret in the original game, but these abilities were just some of the available options as opposed to the entire focus of the class. A full-on Bard class could prioritize co-op gameplay, rewarding those that choose to make their teammates stronger instead of themselves.

Bards would be particularly appealing inTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsbecause ofthe Multi-Class system. Usually, the downside to support classes is that players who choose them must sacrifice the ability to deal damage and wield flashy abilities themselves. However, sinceTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsgives players the option to have a second class, this issue would not be seen. Someone could have the buffs from the hypothetical Bard class as well as the Spellshot’s magic, letting them deal damage and help their team with the same character.

Aside from giving team-focused players access to major support abilities, a Bard class could make good use of theBorderlands’ series humor. Other, sillier instruments could be unlocked and used in place of a lute, while players that choose to play as a Bard could have characters that sing all their dialogue instead of speaking normally. Little jingles could be played that feature music from the series or serve as easter eggs, keeping the trend of reference-filledBorderlandstitles alive. Whether it comes at launch or asDLC forTiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a Bard class would fit perfectly into the game.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
