Summary
As one of very few Preservation units introduced atHonkai: Star Rail’s launch, Gepard Landau’s role on the teams he landed in was invaluable. Providing a team-wide buff that would protect all teammates at such an early stage of development was crucial. He was also one of the few ice characters to be introduced atHonkai: Star Rail’s launch, making him an important character to pull for on the standard banner.
Being a Preservation unit will always make a character highly important. With new bosses, domains, and quests coming out so consistently, there will also be new enemies and bosses coming with them. Having a surefire way to protect the team is vital for players, especially those who try their hand at the Forgotten Hall.Honkai: Star Rail’s Preservation unitsare high in demand and will likely stay this way for quite some time.

Honkai: Star Rail’s Gepard’s Kit
The most important trace that Gepard has to offer his teams is his ultimate. Nothing else is of high importance–though this does not mean everything else is useless. Since he isn’t a skill-dependent unit, this makes him an excellent pick for teams that need protection, but use skill-hungry units likeHonkai: Star Rail’s Imbibitor Lunae. Using his normal attack, like all other units in-game, will generate the skill points needed for his teammates.
And though his skill isn’t much, it does offer some minor crowd control. Gepard’s skill allows him to potentially freeze an enemy after hitting them 3 times. At its base level, there is a 65% chance for him to freeze the enemy. In a pinch,Gepard’s freezing skillwould allow him to freeze an enemy, potentially get the last bit of energy needed for his ultimate, and save the party. Players who always find themselves in dangerous situations will find this just as valuable as his ultimate.
Gepard’s ultimate, Enduring Bulwark, gives a shield worth a certain percent of his DEF and then an added number that changes with trace level on top of that to all allies. Scaling off of DEF makes him fairly unique when compared to other units, though the Preservation crowd does tend to take DEF. His shield lasts 3 turns and is highly sustainable with the proper build. Even better, his technique is a mini version of his ultimate, applying a weaker shield for 2 turns to all allies.
Being a Preservation unit makes findingGepard’s team compseasy. If a player’s team needs shielding, that’s the team to put him in. If a team is strong but squishy, that’s another team to put him in. Many team templates have a fourth slot available for any unit, usually an Abundance or Preservation unit depending on the player’s current roster. Gepard is the perfect fit for that slot as his shielding is a must-have for anyone lucky enough to pull him.
Gepard’s light conesare also easy to come by. Even the three-star Amber light cone has its use with him, proving itself to be highly valuable at Superimposition 5. His best two weapons are both available in the in-game shops: Texture of Memories in Herta’s store and Moment of Victory in the shop. Saving up for either of those weapons won’t hurt players at all, since they can just equip Amber in the meantime if no other four-stars they have are useful for Gepard. His flexibility as a unit and his free-to-play friendly build make him a wonderful character to add to players' rosters.
