The studio behind the well-receivedThe Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakeningremake, Grezzo, is staffing up for its next project. Some new job listings from the previousLink’s Awakeningdev offer some clues as to what the studio might be working on next.
Grezzo has a long history of partnering with Nintendo, mostly onZeldagames. The studio worked on the 3DS remakes ofOcarina of TimeandMajora’s Mask, as well as the 3DS-exclusiveTri Force Heroes. The developer also worked on the 3DS versionLuigi’s Mansionreleased in 2018. Grezzo releasedLink’s Awakeningin 2019, which was lauded for its old-schoolZeldacharm and whimsy, and went on to becomeone of the best-sellingLegend of Zeldagames on Switch. The studio has worked outside of Nintendo a little as well, including with publisher FuRYu onThe Alliance Alive.

Several new job listings were spotted on Grezzo’s website for a programmer, an effects designer, and a UI designer. When translated, the description says that the aesthetic of the game is meant to be “medieval,” “stylish” and that it is, “Not photoreal but a ‘design’ of real elements.” The programmer job description in particular says that the title will be made in the Unity engine.
While the description of Grezzo’s new game suggestsThe Legend of Zeldamay be its source, Grezzo’s front page says, “Would you like to improve your skills with us by developing a new original work?” That sounds like Grezzo is looking to make a new original IP of its own, but it could also mean that the studio is going to create its own originalZeldagame instead of a remake, likeGrezzo did withTri Force Heroes. It is also possible that any of these details are being mistranslated or have a different intent in Japanese.
Regardless, more details on what Grezzo might be working on probably won’t come for some time if the studio is still actively hiring for the project. It is more likely thatThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildsequel will be releasedbefore Grezzo is ready to show its next game, whatever it may be.
There have been rumors that Nintendo is planning to release Switch Pro orSuper Switch, and thatBreath of the Wild 2may release alongside it. Nintendo has denied these rumors, but a more powerful Switch could help keep Nintendo from falling too far behind the power of the new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
