Many players have voiced their concerns through Steam reviews that have earned the game a “Mostly Negative” aggregate review score. Some of the most common complaints have been about frame rate stuttering and crashes. According to the release notes, this update is geared toward improving stability and performance. The release notes also explain that the team is actively working on more improvements based on user feedback and that additional crash diagnostics have been added to help gather more information about shader building-related crashes. It appears that the game’s shader building is one of the main culprits behind issues such as stuttering and poor load times. The change log reports that the new patch alters several files, at least one of which is related to the shaders.

While many players are blaming the fact thatIron Galaxy has handledThe Last of UsPC portafter it delivered the infamously disastrous PC port ofBatman: Arkham Knight,it must be noted that the company has been involved with several otherwise successful ports includingMetroid Prime Remasteredwhich received an overwhelmingly positive response from both critics and fans. Iron Galaxy also worked on the ports ofCrash Bandicoot N. Sane TrilogyandSpyro Reignited Trilogy, which were both positively received.

Hopefully, the latest patch provides some relief for players who are reporting that the PC port ofThe Last of Ushas unreasonably long load times, a problem that appears to be at the top of Naughty Dog’s to-do list when referencing the company’s “Known Issues” page for the game. Regardless, those who have purchasedThe Last of Uson PC can anticipate more patches in the future that will allow them to experience what has been regarded as one of the “must-play” PlayStation exclusives in all its glory.
