They form an important part of many of the cultures in Tamriel, with Morrowind worshiping several Daedra over the Divines, and also have been the subject of two of the most popular expansion packs,The Shivering IslesandDragonborn.The Elder Scrolls Onlinerecently added a new Daedra, Ithelia, the Daedric Prince of Paths, andThe Elder Scrolls 6has the opportunity to include her.
Ithelia was introduced inThe Elder Scrolls OnlineexpansionGold Roadas a Daedric Prince who was imprisoned by Hermaeus Mora in his realm of Apocrypha. He, along with most of the other Daedric Princes, deemed Ithelia to be too powerful and erased the memory of her existence from the people of Tamriel. This wasn’t the first time the Daedric Princes had removed one of their fellows; the Daedric Princes had secretly cursed Jyggalag to transform into Sheogorath and only allowed him to return to his real form at the end of every Age. Ithelia is said to be the reason for the existence of Prisoners, the protagonists ofThe Elder Scrollsgames who traditionally begin as prisoners of unknown crimes.
Bringing in a New Daedric Prince in The Elder Scrolls 6
Ithelia received a mixed reaction inThe Elder Scrolls Online, but the concept itself of anew Daedric Princewho has been erased from the memories of people isn’t in itself bad, andThe Elder Scrolls 6can go a long way in turning her into a viable character with an interesting questline and rewarding Daedric artifact. The idea of a goddess of the crossroads is one that has its foundations in history, and there is a lot thatThe Elder Scrollscan use when writing Ithelia.
Introducing new Daedric Princes isn’t an altogether new endeavor forThe Elder Scrolls, as it did so withJyggalag inThe Shivering Isles. Unlike Jyggalag, Ithelia, doesn’t have to appear once and then never be seen again. Ithelia may have mentioned lore that was confusing or that contradicted established lore inThe Elder Scrolls, but that could be explained through a vast myriad of things such as a Dragon Break, magic from Hermaeus Mora, her own magic, or even just confusion as a result of her imprisonment.
How Ithelia Could Be Integrated Into The Elder Scrolls 6
Likewise, her return inThe Elder Scrolls 6doesn’t have to contradict any lore, as theDaedric Princes are notoriously mutable.The Elder Scrolls 6may have a series of events that trigger Ithelia’s release; she may be restored in the memories of the people of Tamriel in some way, or the events of Skyrim may inspire Hermaeus Mora to release her.
Like all Daedric Princes, Ithelia hasDaedric artifacts of power, and any quest associated with her could result in being rewarded with them. Because she has so little influence on Mundus, she only has the Staff of Many Paths, which was wielded by Torvus, but could possibly make a return inThe Elder Scrolls 6.However, with other appearances, there are more opportunities to create other Daedric artifacts for her, and there are creative opportunities in game design to do so when considering her role as a changer of fate.
