The Callisto Protocolwas originally revealed to fans two years ago as a horror game set within thePlayer Unknown’s Battlegroundsuniverse. It’s an odd premise to many, since the originalPUBGis a battle royale game that isn’t particularly known for an overarching narrative or lore building. That said, it is being developed byStriking Distance Studios, a game development studio headed up byDead Spaceco-creator Glen Schofield.
Many were impressed byThe Callisto Protocoland its cinematic trailer, where it presented the same atmosphere and tone that were present inDead Space. While fans haven’t received many in-depth updates since its development, Glen Schofield has stated that development has been going rather well, sharing smaller updates and pictures on social media. This includes behind-the-scenes photos and pieces of concept art.

The latest photo from Schofield showcases a closeup of one of the grotesquecreatures that players will encounter inThe Callisto Protocol. It has tons of pulsating veins across its skin, along with glistening pores. The closeup does make it hard to determine what the actual creature supposed to look like, but it suitably makes it shrouded in mystery until the developers decide to share more information.
Schofield notes that this update was also posted on Friday the 13th, which is a rather appropriate day for such a photo. Schofield praised the game’s development team and stated that fans should keep an eye out and follow the account, a more news regardingThe Callisto Protocolis coming next week. As previous updates that Schofield has shared on Twitter have been teasing about more information, it seems like fans will finally get another good look at the game.
Despite the quiet updates, there are still many who are highly anticipatingThe Callisto Protocol. Fans and other industry leaders who saw the tweet expressed their excitement for the upcoming update from Schofield, including Geoff Keighley. Fans have noted that Keighley had announced that he visited the studio back in March, where he was likely to see footage of the game. Some fans even speculated that this update will even show offThe Callisto Protocol’s release date, but that remains to be seen. With this game and theDead Spaceremake both on the way, there is plenty for space-faring horror fans to look forward to.
