Giselle Fernandez revealed their role on Twitter, as a part of Nintendo’s launch celebration. Fernandez is a Los Angeles-based actor who had been in a variety of projects beforeSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. Some of these roles include games likeFire Emblem Heroesas Malice and Neimi,Genshin Impact’s Aloy, and Milio fromLeague of Legends. Fernandez proudly announced that they were the voice of the “coolest princess” and were glad thatDaisy was playable inWonder.

Many voice actors and fans congratulated Fernandez on landing the role of Daisy, excited to hear how the tomboyish princess sounds inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. Others noted how Nintendo has been casting a lot of relatively newer talent for these roles as opposed to big names, with older fans commenting on how Nintendo did this previously withCharles Martinet as Mario. Back in 1996, Martinet was a new actor before he was cast as the voice of Mario forSuper Mario 64, where Nintendo cast him based on his audition. Much like Martinet, Afghani and Fernandez were selected from a wide set of auditions, with both of them being cast based on their performance, regardless if they were a big-name voice actor or not.

Some fans wondered why Deanna Mustard is no longer playing the fan-favorite princess, especially with how long she voiced the character. The last portrayal of Princess Daisy by Mustard would be in 2022’sMario Strikers: Battle League. Yoshi’s longtime actor, Kazumi Totaka, was similarly not listed among the voice actors section ofSuper Mario Bros. Wonder’s credits. Regardless, many people were impressed with Fernandez’s performance as Daisy and hope to hear more of them in future entries.

Super Mario Bros. Wonderis available now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
