There are plenty of great skills inStarfield, butPersuasion is definitely one of the most useful. It makes it much easier for players to talk themselves out of trouble, avoiding conflict with a peaceful exchange of words rather than starting it with a hail of bullets. Those who choose one of the Diplomat, Industrialist, Sculptor, or Space Scoundrel Backgrounds will start with the skill by default. Everybody else can unlock it from the Social skill tree for a single skill point.

Whether or not they have unlocked the skill,Starfieldplayers will find that certain dialog options include the word “Persuade” in square brackets, indicating that it may be possible to talk an NPC into changing their mind. The first opportunity that they’ll have to do this comes on Kreet while dealing with the Crimson Fleet pirates, with players getting an opportunity to persuade the group’s leader Brogan to allow them to leave peacefully. Naturally, some will be wondering whether this is a good idea.
Should You Kill Brogan or Try to Persuade Him?
If players have unlocked the Persuasion skill then they should definitely try to persuade Brogan. This is becauseupgrading the Persuasion skillrequires players to successfully complete a certain number of Persuasion attempts and this one is about as easy as they come. After completing it, players will still be free to kill Brogan and the rest of his crew and loot their gear if they really want to, but it’s generally not worth the effort.
It is technically possible toget a Boost Packfrom Brogan’s corpse, but as loot drops are mostly random inStarfield, there’s no guarantee that they will. Besides, players will receive a Constellation Boost Pack as a reward for completing the next main story mission and so are arguably better off saving their bullets and waiting ten minutes or so until they’ve reached New Atlantis and handed over the artifact to Constellation.

Sadly, there’s a rather large element of randomness toStarfield’s Persuasion system, meaning that there are no best answers for persuading Brogan.
How Does Persuasion Work in Starfield?
to successfully persuade somebody inStarfield, players will need to fill up the Persuasion bar at the bottom of the screen. They must do this by choosing from the responses provided, with the number next to each response indicating how many segments of the bar will be filled if the player is successful and the color how likely it is to work, with green being very and red being not very.
Each failed attempt will decrease the number of remaining turns by one and running out of turns before filling the bar results in players failing the persuasion attempt. In most instances, it’s best to choose only green responses, though depending on the NPC and the way that the conversation is going, players may be able to get away with a +3 or +5 response, which can drastically speed up the Persuasion process. Later on, they’ll be able to useother Social skillsto bribe or intimidate persuasion targets.
