Though the map may not be that big in terms of size, games with massive amounts of lore and content likeStardew Valleyhave tidbits of information and side plots hidden in every nook and cranny. There are many stories to find behind Pelican Town’s NPCs, and one of the most popular ones is the romantic relationship going on between Marnie and Mayor Lewis. Likewise, another popularStardew Valleytheory states thatAbigail could very well be the daughter of the Wizardrather than Pierre.

Speaking of Abigail, someStardew Valleyplayers may have noticed that she likes to spend time at the graveyard. During her sixth heart event, she can be seen sitting next to one gravestone that reads “Our Beloved Mona,” prompting some players to ask who this person is and why nobody mentions her, even in passing.

Who is Mona in Stardew Valley?

Because Abigail spends some of her schedule aside from her sixth heart event standing next to Mona’s gravestone, it can be assumed that Mona was an important person toAbigail, such as her late grandmother, for instance. However, it’s possible that Mona wasn’t related to Abigail at all, but perhaps she was close to this person in a non-familial way.

While believing the Mona is a mysterious relative of Abigail’s, some also think that Mona could be Jas' mother. After all, she lives with Marnie, her aunt, and Shane, her godfather, whereas both of her parents have previously died of unknown causes. There are a number of other deceased characters that could make up the other gravestones and rule out other possibilities, such as Clara,Alex’s late mother.

The Identity of M. Jasper

M. Jasper appears to be a writer inStardew Valleywho has contributed to the Lost Books collected forGunther’s museum. In addition to passages in books likeMysteries of the Dwarves, M. Jasper has written a book calledGoblins, detailing their origins, attributes, and other characteristics such as temperament and diet. In another passage, M. Jasper notes that after the 50th level of the mines, the drop rate of diamonds increases.

It’s quite strange that no one of this name appears in the game. At least, not that players know of. Some players believe that M. Jasper could be Marlon, who lives in the Adventurer’s Guild with Gil. Because Marlon is a skilled monster slayer and adventurer, it would make sense that he more than anyone else inStardew Valleywould have extensive knowledge of species like goblins. Given that, he could even write a book on this knowledge for the education and safety of the townsfolk. Otherwise, some believe that Mona could be M. Jasper, but there’s no information supporting this theory over a slightly more substantial indication that M. Jasper could be Marlon.

However, some players have stated that M. Jasper hasn’t written in some time, and having died some time ago would explain this. Should Mona be M. Jasper, it would also stand to reason that Abigail would have seen her as a role model, having fought off monsters in the mines. But another important note comes fromGinger Island’s journal scraps. In the fifth entry, the writer refers to M. Jasper as a male, so it’s still more likely that Marlon is M. Jasper than Mona.

At the end of the day, unlike otherStardew Valleytheories, this mysterious identity doesn’t have anything close to conclusive evidence. Unfortunately, all fans have to go on are theories, but it’s most likely that Mona is simply a relative of Abigail’s rather than another interesting secret ofStardew Valley.
