Two of the more prominent faces in modernStar Warsfinally got to meet, thanks to the excitement ofStar WarsCelebration. The franchise seems to be all in on cameos and returning characters these days, but this is one that probably never would have happened if it wasn’t for this particular “wizard” event.
Amid all the new announcements and reveals atStar WarsCelebration 2023, including some new footage from the upcomingfan-favorite sequel gameStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, attendees were treated to appearances by several of their favorite stars from throughout the beloved franchise. Some were part of big announcements regarding upcoming shows, games, and movies. Others sat in a room with their most passionate admirers to answer burning questions. But a few notable things happened behind the scenes, and one such moment was caught in a delightful image.

Cameron Monaghan, the face and voice of Jedi Cal Kestis fromStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand the upcomingJedi: Survivor, posted photos for the ages on his Instagram. The actor uploaded several images of himself next to, presumably, the actual puppet of Grogu fromThe Mandalorian. The tiny green 50-year-old child formerly known as Baby Yoda captured the hearts of many, and Monaghan is no different. He’s all smiles next to everyone’s favorite pint-sized Force user, just like anybody else would be.
“Made new friends in London at @StarWarsCelebration!” he posted in the caption. But funnily enough, it might not even be the first time the two characters could potentially meet in canon. The prequel era ofStar Warswas capped off with Order 66, a devious and tragic move by Emperor Palpatine that instantly turned the clone army against the Jedi. This horrific time for the order saw many Jedi fall while a precious few escaped. Two of those who escaped the disaster are none other than Cal Kestis and Grogu. But while they were in different places when this happened, that doesn’t mean they never shared a room.
BeforeGrogu was saved by a familiar Jedi onThe Mandalorian, he was probably just another youngling in the Jedi temple learning the ways of the Force alongside his peers. Technically, that might have included Cal, a young Padawan when Order 66 came down. Cal was away on a ship above Bracca during the purge while Grogu was at the temple, so they probably would not have met after that. But then again, this isStar Wars.
There have been plenty of calls forCal Kestis to appear in live actionat some point, and maybe that could provide an opportunity for him and Grogu to meet on-screen. But even if it doesn’t, Monaghan’s post may be all the fans need. Seeing these two characters happy together (or as happy as an empty puppet can be, and no, that isn’t the start of a philosophical discussion) is enough for now.
