Shortly after the recent gameplay reveals forSonic Frontiers, Sega announced a Sonic Central presentation just after the first one has turned a year old. Where theprevious Sonic Central teasedthe nextSonicgame in an incredibly cryptic trailer, the latest one has built upon the latest information to tease fans to the fullest. Sonic Central showcases what may be an important boss, while also announcing a special short that ties into the game’s story.
Sonic Frontiers' plot is still shrouded in mystery, but it isn’t the only thing leaving fans questioning. While players have been given a taste of what the game looks like through two trailers that just came out this month, many are still rather confused as to where it all comes together, and why exactly Sonic is trapped on the Starfall Islands to begin with.

Near the end of the Sonic Central livestream, it was revealed thatSonic Frontierswill be getting its own short just like otherrecent releases such asSonic Colors: UltimateandTeam Sonic Racing. It takes place before the game, and it’s fittingly titled “Sonic Frontiers: Prologue.” It features Knuckles the Echidna, who has now been confirmed to play a role in the game’s story somehow as a result.
Shortly after a small teaser clip ofPrologue, players were thrown into yet another sample of gameplay fromFrontiers. This clip exclusive to Sonic Central focused on a new boss battle, which may be the final boss of the game’s starting area. It shows just how some of the other bosses in the game may function as it involves Sonic chasing down what appears to be a robotic serpent or dragon as it leaves behind a trail players can run on.
The new boss battle seems reminiscent of the Starlight Carnivalstage inSonic Colors, a stage fans may already be familiar with. The most interesting part of the battle may be the fact that this strange creature or machine flies around and interacts with the “open-zone” area fans can run around, and looks to be quite an interesting challenge.
However, while the news fans were given today might be enough to keep them interested for now, other fans are frustrated with the way the game is being handled currently. From the small pieces of information players are being given to the technical issues that plague the current gameplay previews, some fans want Sonic Team to delay the gameto make sure it pleases its audience.
Sonic Frontiersis scheduled to be released holiday 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
