At this point, 11 years afterThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimfirst launched, mods for the game can accomplish almost anything. From turning the dragons inSkyriminto twisted versions of Macho Man Randy Savage to sending giants flying into the sky with their own clubs, there are plenty of strange and wacky mods that can have the latestElder Scrollsentry feeling like an entirely different game. However, sometimesSkyrimplayers want a simple, lore-friendly mod that gives the game a nice, extra detail.
This is where the Adventurer’s Sketchbook mod comes in. ForSkyrimplayers who really want to be immersed in their adventure across the land of the Nords, this mod may prove useful. Like Arthur Morgan’s journal inRed Dead Redemption 2, the Adventurer’s Sketchbook allows a player to build up a collection of sketches whenever they visit an important location inSkyrim. Unlike theRed Dead Redemption 2journal, the Adventurer’s Sketchbook does not let players to create written diary entries or have any written text read aloud, mostly due to the fact thatSkyrim’sprotagonist is silent.

Arthur’s journal inRed Dead Redemption 2allows players to get an idea of what’s going on in the protagonist’s mind at key moments in the story. For many, it is a simple touch that adds much to both the characterization of Arthur Morgan and John Marston. OneRed Dead Redemption 2player liked the idea so much theyrecreated Arthur’s journal in real life. Adding a version of the sketchbook intoSkyrimgives players a similar connection with the game world around them, and it can be picked up from the beginning of the game and kept until the very end.
The Adventurer’s Sketchbook is placed next to the guardian stones in Riverwood. When a player visits one of the locations that are greyed out in the sketchbook, they will see it filled in, eventually gaining a perk for traveling across all ofSkyrim. The “Lay of the Land” perk either grants the player a bonus to critical hit chance or increased movement speed, and it will increase in potency as the player discovers more locations. For players looking to complete their map and find all thehidden locations inSkyrim, this mod gives them another reason to go exploring.
With so many mods available inSkyrimthat alter the game, it is a change of pace to see a simple mod built around making the experience more immersive for the player. This is not to say lore-friendly mods don’t exist, as there are plenty of them to be found on Nexus Mods that can giveSkyrimplayers a new gameplay experience without breaking the lore.
