Marvel Studios’Secret Invasionstars Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, who can be a friend or foe to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, depending on the circumstances. While much about Colman’s character remains unknown, the Oscar-winning actor confirmed something about her MCU role that disappointed her.
Based on the comic book storyline of the same name,Marvel Studios’Secret Invasionfollows Nick Fury as he tries to foil the shapeshifting Skrull’s plot to infiltrate Earth by assuming the identities of people in power. While Fury will turn to familiar allies likeCobie Smulder’s Maria Hill, Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, he will also cross Colman’s Falsworth. A high-ranking MI6 agent, Falsworth is an old ally of Fury, but the character has been described as antagonistic, and her allegiance to Fury depends on their goals.

During an interview withEmpire, Colman expressed how delighted she was towork with Jackson onSecret Invasion. “I loved him!” Colman said. “Loudest man you’ve ever met. Joyful, funny, naughty. He said he thought my trainers were ‘dope’. Didn’t take them off for a year.” However, Colman revealed she was disappointed that her character doesn’t have superpowers, which she tried to remedy. “I kept asking if I could be bitten by something, or fall into a vat of something,” Colman explained. “They were having none of it.”
Jackson was equally thrilled to work with Colman onSecret Invasion, recalling how much fun they had together. “I thought, ‘How lucky can I be to know that today is finally going to be the day I get to act with Olivia Colman?'” Jackson said. “The next thing you know, we were having the most fun you could ever have, sitting there pretending to be these two people that have had a long relationship seeing each other again for the first time in years.”
WhileNick Fury’s future in the MCU afterSecret Invasionremains unclear, fans are excited to see Jackson reprise the role at least once more. Except forCaptain Marvel, the character has only made brief cameos lately. While Fury appeared inSpider-Man: Far From Home, it was later revealed that he was Talos in disguise the whole time.
Excitement for Fury’s return is probably heightened by the prospect of seeing Jackson act alongside Colman. With acclaimed performances infilms such asThe Lost DaughterandThe Favourite, Colman is undoubtedly one of the best actors today, and the MCU is lucky to have her on board.
