How to Create a Custom Treasure Map
In order to create a Custom Treasure Map inSea of Thievesplayers first need to acquire some form of treasure. This can include the skulls players find in the game as well as Gold Hoarder chests. Players who have these on their ships already or happen upon them in theworld ofSea of Thievescan begin the creation of their custom treasure map right away.
Players can travel to almost any island of their choosing to bury their treasure but should clear out enemies before attempting any burial. Once safely on land, place the piece of treasure where it should be buried. Next, equip the shovel from the item radial menu and face towards the treasure.

Facing the piece of treasure will bring up two prompts on the screen: one to bury the treasure and one to pick it up. For controller players, burying is done with the Left Trigger and completely hiding the treasure will require no more than three pulls. Once the burial is complete, a custom treasure map will appear in the player’s quest radial menu. This will point to the treasure’s location and list the island’s name.
How to Share a Custom Treasure Map
With the map now on a player’s possession, they need to head towards any of the outposts in the game, notable for hosting the factions ofSea of Thievesas well as the Black Market. At each of these outposts, players can locate the Quest Board on the dock their ship spawns at when they enter the world.
Once at the Quest Board, interacting with it will give player’s two options to choose from: Quest Board and My Maps. Clicking My Maps will present players with the option to post their new map to the Quest Board. Doing so adds this map to the public board so that other players can grab it and earn themselves the hidden treasure as part ofSea of ThievesSeason 5. If they do, the player who created the map gets bonuses as well.

Sea of Thievesis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
