Ryan Reynolds has offered a glimpse into whatDeadpool 3could have been like. HadDisneynot acquired 20th Century Fox, the movie would have been a road trip story focused on Deadpool andLogan, also known as Wolverine, according to a tweet posted on Reynolds’ official account.
That’s not all. While mentioningDeadpool 3, Reynolds also makes a reference to a “Rashomonstyle”. This works as a comparison toAkira Kurosawa’s classicRashomon, a psychological thriller, which is the award-winning movie credited for introducing Japanese cinema to the world. The plot focuses on four people offering completely different accounts of the same incident - a man’s murder and his wife’s rape.

In his usual quirky manner, Reynolds revealed the tiny detail for his 17 million Twitter followers to see while discussing mental health to support Bell Let’s Talk Day, a day designed to raise awareness on the subject and raise funds for Canadian mental health initiatives. While no other details are offered, theRashomonreference leaves Reynolds’ followers wondering if the plotline could have involved Deadpool and Logan’s different perspectives on the road trip.
WhenDeadpool 2arrived on the big screens in 2018, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine had alreadyretired with 2017’sLogan. It remains unclear whether Jackman was even approached to discuss the potential sequel in theDeadpoolseries and whether Reynolds would have shared the screen space with him, considering theirlong-time friendly rivalry. However, 20th Century Fox was said to be developingDeadpool 3back in 2018 and it was reported at the time that the search for a director was on. So, fans could have potentially had a chance to see the two friends on the big screen together.
Any chance of that ended when Disney officially acquired Fox in March of 2019 though, less than a year afterDeadpool 2’srelease. The new script will now introduce Reynolds' eccentric superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with filming on the sequel set to begin in 2022. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmedDeadpool 3would be an R-rated movie, with Reynolds personally providing input on the script that is currently being written by award-winning sister duoLizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux. Seems like, for now, the only time fans could see Jackman’s Wolverine and Reynolds’ Deadpool together was in theX-Men Origins: Wolverinemovie, which released to poor critical reception in 2009.
Reynolds is, however, busy working on other projects in 2021, with his action-comedyFree Guyreleasing on May 21 and another comedy titledThe Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguardarriving on the big screens on August 20.
