PlayStation fans have been putting together their lists of games they hope to be announced during today’s PS5 “The Future of Gaming” event. The show is said to focus on major game releases coming to the PS5, so it’s no surprise thatCall of Duty 2020is at the top of many gamers' lists. Those gamers may need to readjust their expectations, however, as several members of theCall of Dutycommunity claim they’ve heard thatCall of Duty 2020will not be showcased at today’s PS5 event.
Call of Dutyleaker ModernWarzone on Twitter says that they have an insider source that has yet to be incorrect. This insider says thatCall of Duty 2020will not be revealed during today’s PS5 event. Instead, Activision plans to announce the game via a live event held withinCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandCall of Duty: Warzone. The nature of this event isn’t clear, but would presumably be akin to aFortnitein-game live event.

ModernWarzone goes further in a later tweet, clarifying when this event could take place. According to their source, the live event isn’t occurring this week and it may even be later than next week, too. In other words, the date of theCall of Duty 2020announcement could be some time off, perhaps so Activision can avoid many of the other major announcement events coming over the next weeks.
This isn’t the only person claiming this leak, either. The Gaming Revolution on Twitter is saying that their own independent source has also confirmed thatCall of Duty 2020won’t be at today’s PS5 event. Instead, “It’ll tie into the Warzone live event somehow,” adding thatCall of Dutyfans are already caught up inWarzone’s Season 4 launchand the Bunker Easter egg.
It’s possible that Activision’s original plan was to haveCall of Duty 2020announced during the PS5 event. However, plans may have changed due to the delays forCall of Duty: Modern WarfareandWarzone’s live service plans. The live event could have been held much earlier if Season 4 had launched on time. Or it could have launched now, well after the PS5 event, since that was delayed too. To say every publisher and studio’s summer plans are fluid right now is to put it lightly.
WhenCall of Duty 2020, rumored to be namedCall of Duty: Black Ops, will be revealed is anyone’s guess. But for the time being, it seems very doubtful that it’ll be announced today, June 11, during Sony’sPS5 “The Future of Gaming” event.
Call of Duty 2020is expected to launch fall 2020.
