Harmonix is back with a brand new game announcement. The developers ofGuitar Hero,Rock Band, andDance Centralare working on a new DJing-focused game, filled with a ton of great new music. The game’s name isFuserand as the name implies it lets players mix and layer their favorite songs together. The mixes thatFuserplayers put together can then be shared online, or even remixed by otherFuserplayers across the world.

InFuser, players take on the role of a DJ performing in front of a music festival. Players are given four different mix tracks to arrange, which can include vocals, drums, guitar, effects, trumpet, and more. Players will have a full library of songs and can switch out these layers entirely on the fly. SwapLady Gaga’s vocals out for Lizzo’s or replace Post Malone’s drum track with Fatboy Slim - it’s up to the player to decide.

Over 100 songs are confirmed to be in the final version ofFuser. To kick things off,Harmonixrevealed 16 of those songs as part of its initial gameplay reveal. The list included some recent #1 hits as well as some endlessly popular classics.

Billie Eilish - bad guy

J. Balvin & Willy Williams - Mi Gente

Lady Gaga - Born This Way

Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus - Old Town Road (Remix)

Smash Mouth - All Star

Warren G & Nate Dogg - Regulate

Those worried that Harmonix might try and get away with less popular or older tracks clearly don’t have to worry. With talents likeBillie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and others it’s clear that Harmonix plans to make this game representative of the modern music scene. Players will be able to mix songs that would fit in well at the club.

Harmonix fans won’t have to wait too long to playFuser, either. According to the announcement trailer,Fuseris going to be released in fall 2020 and is already confirmed for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The trailer leaves room for the game potentially coming to both current-gen andnext-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoleswithout being explicit.

It’s exciting and interesting to see Harmonix putting out a big title likeFuseralongside the launch of next-generation consoles. In recent years, Harmonix has had serious financial issues, resulting in a significant amount of layoffs. In 2016 the studio failed to successfully crowdfund a PC port ofRock Band 4. This led to the 2018 announcement that Harmonix would be working with NCSoft on a new game, now confirmed to beFuser.Fuserwill hopefully be the success story that Harmonix needs to stay independent.

Fuserreleases in fall 2020 on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
