Capcom has released a new update for theResident Evil 4remake that adds The Mercenaries mode to the game, but Ada Wong and Albert Wesker are missing in action. When theResident Evil 4remake first launched, it did so without The Mercenaries mode at all, despite the fact that it was a fan favorite feature from the 2005 original.
While theResident Evil 4remake launched without The Mercenaries in tow, fans didn’t have to wait too long for it to get added to the game.Capcom released an update for theResident Evil 4remakeon April 7 that addressed various issues with the game and also added The Mercenaries mode with four playable characters. In this iteration of The Mercenaries,Resident Evil 4players start out with Leon S. Kennedy, but by earning an A rank with him, they can play as Luis. Getting an A rank as Luis unlocks Krauser, and then finally, getting an A rank as Krauser unlocks Hunk for use in the mode.

The original Mercenaries from the 2005Resident Evilgame also let players unlock Ada Wong and Albert Wesker for use in the game, but they are nowhere to be found in theResident Evil 4remake take on the game mode. It’s unclear why Capcom decided to leave Ada and Wesker out of thisnew version of The Mercenaries, but there’s some hope that they could be added to it at some point down the line.
Datamined information points in the direction of Capcom eventually addingAda Wongand Albert Wesker back to Mercenaries as playable characters, but an official announcement hasn’t been made yet, so fans should keep their expectations in check for now. If Ada and Wesker are added to The Mercenaries mode, the question still remains if they will be added as paid DLC or part of a free update.
The same goes for Assignment Ada and Separate ways, both of which are currently missing in theResident Evil 4remake. Those on PlayStation 5 can also look forward to an eventualvirtual reality mode for theResident Evil 4remake, but Capcom has yet to announce when it will be available. Fans will have to stay tuned for more information on theResident Evil 4remake’s future, but with the addition of The Mercenaries mode, they should be kept plenty busy in the meantime.
With how big of a success theResident Evil 4remake has been so far, one has to imagine that Capcom is anxious to keep supporting the game with updates that improve the experience and potentially bring more players to it. Some of these updates might not sit well with fans, like the recent addition ofpay-to-win DLC toResident Evil 4, but hopefully most of them go a long way in keepingREfans engaged.
