Resident Evil 4remains to be one of the mostpopularREgamesin the long-standing survival-horror franchise. Of course, much ofResident Evil 4’spopularity can be attributed to its departure from the traditional fixed-camera angles alongside an immersive story and the return of series favorite, Leon Kennedy, after surviving the nightmarish ordeal of the Raccoon City incident.

Ever since Capcom’s successful release ofResident Evil 3remake last April, many fans of the franchise have been wondering whether the fourth main game in the series will also be given the same treatment. Although a remake ofResident Evil 4remains unconfirmed,severalREleakerswho have previously accurately predictedResident Evilnews in the past are still claiming that Capcom is eyeing a remake ofResident Evil 4after the release ofResident Evil Villagenext year.

Of course, if Capcom is going to revisit this popular game, will it introduce new enemies? While no one knows the answer to that at the moment, here are some enemies that were supposed to come out in the original game that Capcom should re-introduce inResident Evil 4remake.

Armored Ganado

During the long development cycle ofResident Evil 4, Capcom developers made numerous variations of the Ganados that did not make the final version of the game. To the uninitiated, Ganado is the term given to human victims ofthe Recessive Plaga Speciesthat is genetically-engineered by Los Illuminados. Now, one of the most popular rejected Ganado designs includes the Armored Ganado who was a prototype of the Garrador enemy.

However, unlike the Garrador, the Armored Ganado does not have any claws, and its eyes are not stitched. One defining character design that the Armored Ganado has is the Los Illuminados symbol stamped onto the enemy’s breastplate. Additionally, a second design of the Armored Ganado was created by Capcom and it features an older-looking and bulkier style of armor, with the enemy’s face hidden from view by a helmet.

Hook Man

The Hook Man is another cut enemy that was first revealed during the E3 2003 demo ofResident Evil 4. This version of the enemy appeared duringthe “Hallucination” build ofResident Evil 4,which was eventually scrapped due to technical limitations that would be too costly for Capcom. As seen in early trailers for the game, The Hook Man would jump out from a painting when Leon starts to hallucinate.

As its name clearly suggests, the Hook Man is equipped with a giant hook and has the ability to teleport and reach Leon even faster with surprise attacks. It was also mentioned that the Hook Man is vulnerable to light, and will significantly weaken the monster once exposed.

Black Fog

The Black Fog is a strange creature that was first developed into the 2002 build ofResident Evil 4called “Castle.” This creature was intended to be developed by a new virus created by HCF’s leader Albert Wesker, who was responsible for Leon’s subsequent infection when he infiltrated the castle ofUmbrella founder Ozwell E. Spencer. One of the major reasons why the enemy was dropped was due to technical limitations, given that it animating the creature was not possible for the GameCube.

Interestingly enough, the design of the Black Fog is pretty much similar to some creatures introduced inResident Evil 5.Similar to the Black Fog, some enemies inResident Evil 5that feature a similar design also faced technical issues. However, this time around, Capcom was able to invent a new animation technique to make the enemy’s design possible in the game.

Beelzebub

The Beelzebub is one of the monsters designed duringResident Evil 4’s"Stylish" build. The enemy’s design features a mix of various monsters and insects, but its overall look appears to be inspired by a fly with its numerous eyes and large wings. Interestingly enough, the Beelzebub eventually made its way to another Capcom franchise and wasadded toDevil May Cry. Its design was completely unchanged, though the polygon count was much lower when compared to its first appearance in the earlyResident Evil 4build.

Phantom

Another enemy that was featured inResident Evil 4’s"Stylish" build, which eventually becameDevil May Cry,is the Phantom. Similar to the Beezlebub, the Phantom was released toDevil May Cry, though Capcom had to make slight design changes to accommodate the game’s story. Instead of having blood flowing around its body, lava was used as a replacement. Many also believe that inBayonettaandBayonetta 2, which were both directed by Hideki Kamiya, the Phantom also appears when using the summon “Phantasmaraneae”, given its similar overall design. Moreover, its attacks are widely believed to be based on Phantom’s.

Of course, given thatResident Evil 4remake is still unconfirmed, no one knows whether any of these cut monsters from the original would ever see the light of day. However, given that most of them were scrapped inResident Evil 4due to technological limitations, it is possible that Capcom may revisit these monsters again should the publisher decide to remake the classic 2004 survival-horror game.
