The next game from Remedy Entertainment will somehow tie into the universes ofControlandAlan Wake, the developer confirms. Remedy began teasing its new project just a day after announcingControl’sAWEDLC expansion, which brings back Alan Wake.
In a post on the company’s official site,Remedy Entertainment’s creative director Sam Lake detailed something called the “Remedy Connected Universe.” This “crazy” idea said Lake, is that the stories of Remedy’s games “would be connected to each other, a connected world of stories and events with shared characters and lore.” While each Remedy game is a standalone title, they’ll each feature a “doorway” into each other, and allows the developer to create crossover events likeControl’sAWEDLC.

Lake also says that the Remedy Entertainment team has been thinking of the Remedy Connected Universe idea for more than 10 years and that it has been “planning and plotting to make this a reality” behind the scenes. However, theAWEDLC is the first “concrete” step in making the universe happen. This sounds likeQuantum Break, which was the biggest-selling new Xbox IP of the Xbox One generationwhen it released in 2016, may not be part of the connected universe plan.
The Remedy Entertainment boss calls this a “humble beginning” for the Remedy Connected Universe too, and teases future plans for it. The game developer is “hard at work on a future Remedy game that also takes place in this same universe,” Lake said. In May,a secret Remedy Entertainment game with the codename BigFishleaked and this could be the same Remedy Connected Universe game that Lake is talking about.
The game could also potentially beControl 2, which was teased in Remedy job listings. With those job listings talking about the “Control universe” and with Lake confirming that this next game will be in that same universe, it does seem likely that these titles are one and the same.
While the Remedy Connected Universe has only just been announced, it could potentially blossom into something bigger. TheMarvel Cinematic Universe, which features solo movies likeCaptain Marveland bigger crossover events likeThe Avengersmovies, has been hugely successful. Fans who want to learn more about the wider universe choose to watch movies about heroes that they typically wouldn’t have cared about. It remains to be seen whether this will happen with Remedy and if it could positively affect its sales, but the possibilities are exciting.
