Red Dead Onlineis well known for giving players a wide variety of customization options, which many players use to recreate characters from other franchises. Now, one player has seized the opportunity to make a surprisingly game-accurate version of Geralt of Rivia fromThe Witcherfranchise inRed Dead Online.
Geralt is a Witcher, an alchemical mutant created for the specific purpose of killing monsters–human or otherwise–but looking past the magical elements of his character, he fits quite nicely into theRed Dead Redemptionseries. Like Arthur Morgan, John Marston, and most of the series' other major players, Geralt is a relic of a wilder time that is now fading away. Even with the aesthetic differences stemming from Geralt’s dark fantasy roots, he looks much more natural than, say,Spider-Man inRed Dead Online.

While the customization options in Red Dead Online are very robust, it appears they do not allow for one of Geralt’s visual trademarks, his yellow cat-like eyes. However, Redditor HeySoloSoyYo was able to recreate just about every other aspect of Geralt’s design fromThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, from his prominent facial scars to his armor. This recreation does make Geralt’s beard a little longer and his hair a little less flowing, but those seem to be due to engine differences. HeySoloSoyYo has previously createdMario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi inRed Dead Online, and the experience shows in this project.

This recreation of Geralt features shoulder-length, swept-back white hair, a thick grey beard and mustache, and a heavy, multi-layered outfit that includes a jerkin, two bandoliers to replace Geralt’s shoulder harnesses, and a single sword. The other blade is replaced by a gun instead, begging the question of which is for monsters and which is for men. Guns that shoot silver bullets are a staple of fantasy, after all. While some liberties have been taken with Geralt’s outfit, he looks incredibly accurate toThe Witchergames. HeySoloSoyYo also gave a gun to aRed Dead Onlinerecreation ofInvincible’s Omnimanwhich is about as accurate as aRed Dead Onlineplayer can get without mods.
The Witcher’s similar tone and dark fantasy aesthetic make it relatively straightforward to translate Geralt intoRed Dead Online, but other franchises can run into a few more problems. Fortunately,Red Dead Redemptionfans aren’t just fond of recreating characters and outfits from other franchises–one fan decided torecreate outfits fromRed Dead Redemption 1inRed Dead Redemption 2. Although there were some missing outfits, as certain pieces of DLC gear simply don’t exist inRed Dead Redemption 2, the result was as nostalgic as it was accurate.
Red Dead Onlineis available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
