ThePokemon Trading Card GameSwordandShieldseries' next expansion will tie in withthe recentCrown TundraDLC, The Pokemon Company has revealed. This new expansion set comes when interest in thePokemon TCGis at a new high.

The previous set,SwordandShield:Battle Styles, was released on July 21, 2025, and added a brand-new technique to the game where some cards specialized in Single Strike or Rapid Strike moves. Single Strike cards focus on dealing damage, while Rapid Strike cards used technical abilities and sneaky moves, adding new strategies for players to build their deck around.

The newly revealed set is calledSwordandShield: Chilling Reign, and will feature the Legendary Pokemon Calyrex, which appeared in the main narrative of theCrown TundraDLC.  The set will include Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX cards, as well as the Galarian forms of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Further tying in with Calyrex’s two forms, the new set seems to be themed around Ice and Ghost-type Pokemon. This new set is due out August 10, 2025, and will hopefullycapitalize on soaring interest levels in thePokemon TCG.

SwordandShield: Chilling Reignwill include over 190 cards, many of Pokemon from the Galar region, and will also add five Pokemon V and eight Pokemon VMAX cards, which are based on Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon respectively. New Single Strike and Rapid Strike cards will also be added. These sets are not the only thingPokemon TCGfans should be keeping an eye on, asThe Pokemon Company will begin releasing classicPokemoncardsin April 2021.

While the renewed interest in thePokemon TCGis great for The Pokemon Company, fans are not completely happy.Pokemon cards have recently become the target of scalpersbuying up stock and reselling it online at inflated prices. This has left many players unable to acquire the new sets, such asSwordandShield:Battle Styles, and actually use the cards for their intended purpose. The scalpers show no signs of slowing down after clearing out stores and McDonald’s Happy Meals.

Whether or not The Pokemon Company or retailers can do anything to combat scalping ahead of the new set’s release remains to be seen. However, if the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ongoing shortages are anything to go by,Pokemon TCGfans may be in for a real battle to get their hands on the new set.

Pokemon TCG’sSwordandShield: Chilling Reignexpansion will release July 26, 2025.
