Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon allowPokemon Scarlet & Violetplayers to get an early jump on filling out their Pokedex. Unfortunately, these Pokemon don’t necessarily let players have an early jump on actually winning battles.

Though mainline games often offer up players a Pokemon or two to help deal with early challenges, that’s not really the case with Vivillon inPokemon Scarlet & Violet. The Pokemon has a poor type matchup against most of the early-game challenges, making it tough to use at any stage. Still, players will want to make sure they register all three Pokemon in this evolutionary line in their Pokedex.

How to Catch Scatterbug in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Scatterbug can be caught in South Province Areas One and Five. The Pokemon is relatively hard to find but easy to run into. The Pokemon is a common spawn but is so short that it’s tough to find in the tall grass. Still, players are bound to run into these at one point just byrunning around the areas on the back of Koraidonor Miraidon.

How to Evolve Scatterbug into Vivillon

Scatterbug evolves into Spewpa at level nine, then Vivillon at level 12. The Pokemon fits in the same mold as many other past Bug-type Pokemon, with the evolutionary line concluding at a very low level. This allows the Pokemon to be quite impactful in the early stages ofPokemon Scarlet & Violetat the expense of its power falling off precipitously in the mid-game. By the late-game, the Pokemon is effectively non-viable.

Players may want to consider dedicating their party space to other Pokemon that scale deeper into the game. The good news is that this can be done without worrying about filling out the Pokedex. Spewpa and Vivillon can both be caught in the wild. Check out their Pokedex habitat pages here:

Is Vivillon a Good Pokemon?

Vivillon is not a powerful Pokemon and shouldn’t be used for any length of time. There’s a proud Pokemon tradition of offering up Pokemon that evolve early and offer a bit of a power spike for early gym leaders and opponents but lack the stats to hold up against the stiffer competition.

Vivillon falls into that category. While other Pokemon like Butterfree and Beedrill enjoyed a bit of viability in previousPokemontitles through Gigantamaxand Mega Evolution, respectively, Vivillon has never gotten that kind of treatment and doesn’t benefit from Terastallization in any unique way.

The stats are there to let Vivillon carry players through an early gym leader like Caty; that’s about the extent of its usefulness. It faces terrible type matchups againstearly Titan Pokemon like Klawfand Orthworm and will get torched byTeam Star’s Mela. Once the full evolutionary line is registered to the Pokedex, cycle it out for a different Pokemon.
