Overwatch 2is somewhere on the horizon, and players cannot wait for it to get here. BetweenchangingOverwatch’s tanksand updating heroes, hopefully for the better, the originalOverwatchfanbase is ready for the next chapter.
Of course, players are still playing the originalOverwatch, though not so many as during the game’s heyday. With new content slowing steadily and long-term problems still present, there’s a lot thatOverwatch 2could offer to players. Still, many long-term fans still log in to keep their skills sharp and have fun, and some intrepid players are finding entirely new ways to enjoyOverwatchin ways Blizzard never dreamed.

Super Louis 64, formerly of Gearbox, created a mod that lets players playOverwatchusing the Ring-Con controller fromRing Fit Adventure. For those unfamiliar, the controller consists of a Joy-Con or two attached to a rubber ring, with a stepping pad added by the modder. With the modified control scheme, players make their character move by literally running in place, while Joy-Con buttons are used for finer commands like using abilities. If it can be carried over to the second game, this mod would likely make players feel as tired as the robot fromOverwatch 2’s push mode.
Aiming and shooting are done with the ring itself, allowing some fairly fine control over the reticule. With how fast some characters shoot, or with characters whose weapons fire continuously with a button press, the squeeze can really start to make players feel the burn. To use an ultimate, the player must squat. Considering how often players must squat inRing Fit Adventure, it’s a comparatively easy ask. Obviously not everyone will want to try the mod out, but consideringRing Fit AdventureoutsoldMarvel’s Avengersin Japan, it’s likely many could if they felt so inclined.
According to Super Louis 64, it makes for a pretty intense workout, especially since players must frequently run to move their characters. For some characters this would be less true, like Widowmaker, who mostly stands in place waiting for a good shot. Unless aWidowmaker reworkchanges this, she’d likely not provide a good workout.
Whether or not Super Louis 64 will replicate the mod forOverwatch 2remains to be seen, butifOverwatch 2’s story campaign matches player’s hopes, there would be a lot of game to exercise for. It could provide a good challenge and a good workout all at once.
