Just like most animes that has that one unique type of villain, Garou is a fan favorite when it comes to theOne Punch Manseries. Known as the “hero hunter”, Garou is a strong non-believer of the hero and monster association and opposes them greatly. Once a top student of the martial arts master, Bang, Garou was kicked out for losing control.Garou is also knownas the “human monster”, due to his wild obsession with monsters.

As a character who was introduced later on in the series, Garou is seen to be a young man with grayish hair that is spiked only on two ends, he wears a simple black long sleeved t-shirt along with white long trousers accompanied by kung fu tai chi martial arts shoes. His muscles are clearly visible as the long sleeve t-shirt is more body fit and accentuates his muscular physique.

Origins

The origin of his hatred towards heroes begins during his early childhood, he was once severely bullied by a boy named Tacchan who used to bully Garou when they used toplay heroes and villains, always making young Garou the villain. He realized how much all his classmates loved Tacchan but despised Garou as he was seen as the monster. This sparked a rage inside of him as he grew up to side with monsters rather than heroes, and cheered the monsters to win the battle. His intense hatred towards heroes is what drove him to violently attack heroes, he also believes himself to be a powerful individual, cutting down anyone who challenges him or insults him. The class/rank of a hero means nothing to him, and he always believed he was stronger than the heroes who he badly wanted to defeat.

Being recognized as a villain, Garou wasconsidered an evil individual(since most villains are), however, when fighting he believes in not killing his opponents, which is a strange trait, for someone who is considered evil. He also believes in not harming the innocent such as children. This is seen when the hero Metal Bat’s sister shows up when Garou and metal bat are fighting and stands in the way of Garou attacking Metal Bat. Garou shrugs it off and says he has somewhere else to be anyway.

Before going on his mad rampage of hunting down heroes and defeating them, Garou was a disciple of Bang and was his best student, he was so good that he managed to defeat all his peers. The heightened physical abilities along with powerful martial arts training he received from Bang made him a force to be reckoned with. He later goes on to state that he has defeated a hundred of heroes whenhe started them huntingthem down.

Fighting Abilities

Garou loves the heat of the battle and goes into a frenzy when fighting his opponents, he degrades his opponents calling them names and appearing superior to them. Before indulging in his battles Garou scans the environment to see the ways he can take advantage of the situation. When Death Gatling appeared with a group of A and B class heroes to take Garou down, Garou was able to fight all of them even though he wasn’t in perfect shape. Garou was tactfully able to utilize his martial arts skills and use creative ways to defeat the heroes by using their own weapons andabilities against themwhile also landing punches and kicks.

One-Punch Man: What Makes Saitama Such A Fun Hero To Root For

Garou’s fighting style revolves mostly around powerful martial arts moves which he learned from his master, Bang. However, his fighting style may falter when it comes to fighting heroes or monster that use unique fighting styles such as Watchdog Man’s ability to bounce off objects in order to land an attack, Garou was easily defeated in this scenario. Garou’s strength knows no bounds as he is even capable of defeating A-class heroes. His strength and exceptional martial arts techniques gives him more of an edge rather than the average fighter. Even though weakened and poisoned he is still able to fight, making him a tough opponent. This also proves that Garou possessesinsane amounts of endurance and stamina as he is able to continuously keep fighting regardless of the situation he is in. His speed and reflexes also plays a huge role as he was able to doge bullets and use acrobatic moves to ensure he is able to avoid fatal attacks from his opponents, the speed in which he moves allows him to easily evade attacks.

Garou also possess heightened senses, which allows him to anticipate an opponents move and also identify the intent of his enemies while in battle. He also possesses a will like no other in order to win a fight. During the fight with Spring Mustachio, Garou was able to defeat him by hurting himself in the process and was also able to deflect all the bullets Golden Ball shot at him. Martial arts plays a key role in Garou’s fighting style as he uses it to exploit his opponent’s weakness. He uses moves such as Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist and the Exploding Heart Release Fist. He alsolearns moves from his opponentssuch as when he mimicked Watchdog Man’s movements in order to take off Geno’s arm.

In the manga, Garou is seen to evolve into a monster where he gets even stronger when he surpasses his limiter. His final form is even more powerful and that is when he becomes unstoppable.
