The Monkey D family is central to the entire story ofOne Piece.The protagonist of the story, Luffy, belongs to this family. Monkey D. Luffy set out on his journey to becoming the Pirate King in the very first chapter of the story and, with time, other members of this family were revealed to the fans as well.

The D., in general, are very intriguing personalities in theOne Pieceworld. As fans know by this point already, the D are often considered to be the enemies of the gods and, given thatthe Celestial Dragons are the godsof theOne Pieceworld, the D are very dangerous people indeed, carrying dangerous ideologies to them. Among the D, the Monkey D’s have proven to be especially dangerous with characters that have, in one way or another, turned the world upside down.
The Power Of Monkey D. Garp
The oldest member of the Monkey D family at this point is Garp.Garp is the Hero of the Marineswho was born in the Goa Kingdom. Just like Luffy, he spent his childhood in the wild, taming animals and hunting for treasures. Garp has always been very free-spirited and by the looks of it, never hesitated to take part in battles. Somehow, he found his way to the Marines and he made quite a name for himself there. Garp especially formed a special relationship with the future Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, as the two were known to be bitter rivals yet were very close to each other. On God Valley, 38 years ago, they teamed up and brought down the greatest pirate at the time, Rocks D. Xebec.
Since then, Garp has only grown in both power and influence and, eventually, in the age to follow, he came to be known as a demon to pirates. Garp doesn’t wield any devil fruit power and relies solely on his Haki in combat. He was recently revealed to bea user of Conqueror’s Hakias well and his attack on Blackbeard’s base just goes to show what kind of a monster he is in combat. That said, right now, Garp is certainly not at his strongest. He is a relic of bygone times, and even though he still harbors a tremendous amount of strength, it is likely not comparable to the strength he possessed when he was in his prime.
The Power Of Monkey D. Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy, on the other hand, recently set out on his journey when he was 17. Now, after the timeskip, Luffy has become a ferocious pirate and recently, following the War of Wano, he has now established himself as one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and attained a bounty of 3 billion berries. Luffy has defeated Kaido and that in itself means that he’s among the strongest pirates in the world already.He has mastered his Devil Fruitand even managed to awaken it recently. When it comes to Haki, Luffy has learned all three types of it and taken them to the advanced level, however, his control over his Conqueror’s Haki can still be improved.

That said, Luffy can compete against any of the Yonko currently and put up a great fight, if not win. To think that he has attained all this at just 19 years of age just goes to show that Luffy still has room to grow even stronger and, perhaps, even surpass the likes of the legendary Whitebeard, Roger, Sengoku, and Garp, among other figures, who were known to be on a different level entirely. It goes without saying that Luffy has not hit his prime as a pirate just yet. He can still grow tremendously powerful and, as far as the Monkey D family goes, Luffy is still growing, even though he is already a Yonko.
The Power Of Monkey D. Dragon
This brings the fans over to Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy’s father. While fans do not know much about Dragon just yet, it goes without saying that Dragon is extremely powerful already. He is the leader of the Revolutionary Army which he created to battle against the World Government. It is safe to say the Dragon has succeeded in this goal as he has amassed very strong members for his army, such as Sabo, among others. Dragon himself is a level above everyone and is an extremely skillful fighter, if the level of his underlings is anything to go by. At the same time, it must be remembered that while Garp is too old and beyond his prime right now, and Luffy is young and still has a lot of room to grow, Dragon is at the perfect age.
Dragon is currently in his prime and, at the same time, he is also the World’s Worst Criminal. This means that Dragon’s bounty could potentially be the highest seen inOne Pieceso far and, at the same time, he might very well be the most feared man in the world ofOne Piece. When it comes to the Monkey D family, Dragon might just be the strongest. It goes without saying that he has a powerful Haki, as is the case with all the Monkey D characters seen in the story. However, to back that up, he might even have a powerful Devil Fruit with the ability to cause storms, as has been hinted at on several occasions already. Undoubtedly, Dragon, right now, might be a step above Luffy and Garp and fans are going to see him go all out very soon.
