Villains inOnePiecevary from strong and arrogant to weak and cunning. They have done an excellent job at creating obstacles in Luffy’s path, however, most of them end up getting beaten up by him. After their defeat or due to other situations, many characters renounced their evil ways and joined the good side.

5Nico Robin

Nico Robin is a member ofthe Straw Hat Pirates. Robin is an intelligent person, who is capable of remaining calm even in the midst of a battle. Before joining the Straw Hats, Nico Robin was an assassin working for the Baroque Works.

She went by the name of Miss All Sunday, and with her Hana Hana no Mi, she could easily kill a person within seconds by breaking their neck. While Robin’s transition into a heroic character is great, there are undoubtedly fans who would have preferred the female assassin who was wanted by the World Government.

4Crocodile

Crocodile was the main antagonist of the Alabasta arc. He was operating under the alias of Mr. 0 and used the Baroque Works to take over the Kingdom of Alabasta. Crocodile meticulously planned out every single detail, and he would have been successful in achieving his task, had Luffy not intervened. Crocodile defeated Luffy twice, but the latter’s determination proved to be decisive, and it paved the way for Crocodile’s defeat.

After his defeat, Crocodile was imprisoned in Impel Down with the worst criminals. One would assume that he would have become more evil than before, however, it wasn’t the case. When he arrived at Marineford with the rest of the escapees, Crocodile tried to help the Whitebeard Pirates against the Marines. He prevented Ace’s execution, stopped Mihawk from attacking Luffy, and even prevented Akainu from finishing off Luffy. His transition might be incredible, but he wasdefinitely better as an evil villain.

3Charlotte Katakuri

Katakuri is one of the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates. Before the Straw Hats arrived at Whole Cake Island, Katakuri had an immaculate record of being undefeated. From his very first appearance, Katakuri came off as a powerful character, who had fought many difficult battles in his life. Katakuri’s experiences allowed him to awaken Advanced Observation andAdvanced Armament Haki. His Advanced Observation Haki was very impressive as it allowed him to look into the future and see the incoming attacks.

During his fight against Luffy, Katakuri was so impressed by the Supernova that he started to respect him. As the fight dragged on, it was clear that Katakuri had no malice towards Luffy and in a way, he taught Luffy about the advanced versions of Haki. If Katakuri had stayed true to his character, who could kill a man with a jelly bean, he could have potentially defeated Luffy and maintained his unbeaten record.

2Buggy

At the time of his introduction, Buggy came off as a scary and evil character, who was cruel even to his crewmates. However, Buggy’s time in the prison appears to have affected him. Buggy has become more of a comic relief character, who gets in very bad situations, but with luck on his side, he manages to escape without taking any significant damage. At Marineford, Buggy proved to be of great value to the pirates.

He helped Luffy to avoid one of Mihawk’s attacks, albeit he was used as a shield against his will. Furthermore, Buggy carried Luffy and Jimbei to Trafalgar Law’s ship. After the events of the Summit War, Buggy was offeredthe position of a Shichibukai, and he was more than happy to join. Despite getting into a position of power, Buggy never returned to the nefarious ways that made him stand out as a character.

1Bartholomew Kuma

Bartholomew Kuma was a member of the Shichibukai before his sentience was erased by Vegapunk. Kuma made a significant impact when he appeared at Thriller Bark. With the power of Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, Kuma was able to take out all of Luffy’s pain. This paved the way for Zoro’s most iconic scene to date when he absorbed all of the pain. As a pirate, Kuma was known to be extremely dangerous, and his notoriety earned him the epithet of “Tyrant.”

In addition to being a pirate, Kuma was also apart of the Revolutionary Army, and he was one of the higher-ranked officers. In the Levely arc, it was revealed that Kuma had been reduced to being a mere slave of the Celestial Dragons. The sight of Kuma being reduced to just a common slave was saddening to watch, especially considering how powerful he was as a character.
