Ewan McGregor isn’t ashamed to admit that while he was shooting hisStar Warsoffshoot,Obi-Wan Kenobi,he became rather attached to one of his castmates. However, theStar Warsveteran didn’t forge a romantic bond with one of the actresses, this time around the bond was with a trusty camel.

The upcoming Disney Plus seriesObi-Wan Kenobiwill feature McGregor’s first returnto theStar Warsuniverse since he starred as the same titular character in the prequel trilogy. The show is going to pick up where that prequel trilogy leaves off and takes place during a time when the empire is really at its worst as it starts to take over the galaxy for real. Obi-Wan is hiding out from the empire while keeping a watchful eye on the young Luke Skywalker. While he’s doing that, he uses a kind of camel-like creature to ride through the deserts of Tatooine.

The creature is called an Eopie – the ‘snoot-horse’ desert creature that previously popped up in the prequels - and this time around the creature was played by a camel named Silas. In an interview withEmpire, theObi-Wan Kenobistarsaid he became quite attached to Silas while the series was shooting. In the interview, McGregor made it clear that he really, really liked Silas, though he wasn’t sure whether the camel had the same feelings for him. He added that he liked working with an actual animal instead of the digital effects that were used to make the Eopie in the prequels.

In particular, it was fun for the actor to actually ride an animal during shooting for his newStar Warsseries. McGregor said that he actually felt so close to Silas that when shooting with the animal was wrapping up, he thought about adopting the camel. The actor said Silas' trainer told him that the animal was finishing up his career because he was 20 years old.TheObi-Wan Kenobistarwas also told they were looking for a “forever home” for Silas and the actor almost decided to be that home.

However, it appears that McGregor fought the urge to adopt Silas, in part because he realized that he wasn’t really set up to have a camel living with him. Granted, there’s still a chance the actor could change his mind and decide that Silas needs to come to live with him sinceshooting for theStar Warsseriesended not that long ago.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobiwill premiere on May 25th, 2022, on Disney Plus.
