Just because it’s furry and cuddly doesn’t mean an animal in video games is out to hand out free pet coupons. Because some animals are, well, animalistic and can actually do more harm to humans than good if the latter doesn’t set boundaries. Those are the milder cases when it comes to the majority of video game fauna. The more extreme case are animals evil enough tobecome villains.

There’s no shortage of them in video games, it would seem. Some are “morally” consideredas evilbecause of their destructive instincts while others are conscious of what they’re doing and enjoy all the chaos they sow. The following examples of evil video game animals are here to drive the point that they’re not here for pets, they’re here for pandemonium.

8Goose – Untitled Goose Game

That darn goose in theUntitled Goose Gameis not the villain per se, but it might as well be. Throughout the chill game, the players kept getting tasked with controlling the goose to cause as much strife as possible in the kingdom of man. Activities include bullying visually-impaired people, stealing gardening equipment, and destroying mail among many other pestilences to society.

Granted, it’s the players who enact this mission at the game’s behest, but it’s easily the goose’s initiative seeing as the completion of these tasks leads to a sense of achievement for it. It could be argued that the goose is but a mere vessel of its controller’s urge and descent to cause anarchy in a society with too many rules, orthe goose is just pure evil and wants to cause as much harm as it can in its measly form.

7Goat – Goat Simulator

Similar to the goose in theUntitled Goose Game, the goat inGoat Simulatoris not just an agent of anarchy, it’s also a surrogateof Satan. There’s evidence of this throughout the game, unlike in theUntitled Goose Gamewhere the goose can be ambiguously bad or just neutral. The goat inGoat Simulatoris a certified member of a local Satanic cult in the game’s small-town setting.

There’s even a not-so-hidden ritual circle surrounded by other goat members awaiting the player goat’s arrival to become the harbinger of hell. Not much happens after completing the ritual, though; it could also just be nothing more than a metal band meeting gone-wild, but seeing as how the goat destroys everything it touches, all roads lead to damnation.

6Alduin – Skyrim

What? Dragons are animals. They’re often classed as overgrown, fire-breathing, and flying reptiles. Most of them are rather animalistic inSkyrimtoo. Their hierarchy rules and lack of social structure do not set them apart too much from the typical violent mudcrab. In any case, Alduin is the most powerful and thus the most destructive among them.

His other title is literally the World Eater where he runs around lording himself over dominions just because he can and because he’s the first dragon. In the Nordic pantheon, Alduin is also considered the God of Destruction. If he hadn’t accidentally given the Dragonborn some powers, he would have gone on to rule Skyrim, destroying everyone who dares oppose him.

5Zombie Dog – Resident Evil

Some evil animals aren’t evil by choice. Plenty of them were just victims of circumstances. The best example of this would be the zombie dogsinResident Evil.It exists in one of the most classic jump scares devised in gaming. As players walk Jill Valentine down a narrow and ominously-lit corridor, one of these zombie dogs will pop out the window, not just to nibble Jill’s throat, but also give players a heart attack.

Suffice to say, the zombie dogs inResident Evilhave probably done more damage to the player’s psyche than most other evil video game animals. The trauma they bring is persistent enough to invade people’s dreams and also instill a previously-nonexistent phobia of dogs.

4Deathclaw – Fallout Series

In a nuclear wasteland riddled with zombies, hulking Supermutants, and pockets of radiation, not much else could pose a threat, right? Well, that is until the players stumble upon a Deathclaw, which is practically a large walking demon lizard thing — the apex predator of the wasteland.

They’re the result of the United States' greed in theFalloutuniverse. Initially, Deathclaws were meant to be genetically-engineered replacements for normal infantry butthe experimentwent awry and they escape. Since then, the Deathclaws went out and about ripping everything to pieces and ruling the wasteland just because they can.

3Shark – Maneater

Players might be the protagonists in the video gameManeateras they control a Great White shark, but thatdoesn’t mean they’re the heroesof the story. If anything, they’re the plague of the seas; the shark that players control here seems to be insatiable and has the metabolism of a meatgrinder.

The goal inManeateris to swim around vacation coastlines while munching on as many humans as possible. So the game is practically telling the players to ruin not just everyone’s vacation but also their families' lives as they try to cope with the aftermath of a brutal and unwarranted shark attack — assuming they survive.

2Deviljho – Monster Hunter Series

Speaking of insatiable, hungry beasts, Deviljho in theMonster Huntermythos is the land version of the shark inManeater. The community has collectively agreed to nickname it “Pickle” because of its shiny green build, but make no mistake, the Deviljho is more pest than predator in any environment where it’s unleashed.

That’s because it’s the mostterritorial monsterin the game. A Deviljho’s purpose or drive is to keep invading territories once its food source runs out; it just so happens that its food sources keep running out since it’s always hungry. Hence, any ecosystem or human society is always in trouble with a Deviljho in close proximity.

1God-Devouring Serpent – Elden Ring

Still, the Deviljho and theManeatershark’s appetite pales in comparison to the horrors created byElden Ring. Because one deity animal in that game, named the God-Devouring Serpent lives up well to its name. Its appetite knows no bounds and even consumed and assimilated one of the most powerful demigods in the game’s lore.

That didn’t stop the God-Devouring Serpent; it even set its eyes upon the demigod’s servants. It even got to the point where travelers and servants alike were being misled to the monster’s chambers like some kind of treacherous food delivery service because the God-Devouring Serpent is too lazy or too heavy to hunt.
