Moon Knight may be one of the lesser-known Marvel characters since his comic book debut back in 1975, but the excitement level for his own series,Marvel Studios’Moon Knight, continues to grow. Set to debut on Disney Plus later this month, discussions about whether the hero will eventually join the Avengers in future MCU stories are already brewing, as the series' creator hopes to see that come to fruition.
After portraying the villainous mutant Apocalypse in Fox’sX-Men: Apocalypse, Oscar Isaac will make his Marvelreturn andMCUdebut as Marc Spector, a mercenary who embodies the complicated Moon Knight vigilante and suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. Spector was a former US marine facing death before his life fellwithin the hands of Khonshu, the ancient Egyptian god of the Moon, for whom he has now become a conduit. The multiple identities of Moon Knight fight for control of his body amid a war against the backdrop of modern and Ancient Egypt.

In an interview with Total Film, series creator Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy), while still unsure what the MCU’s future entails, would very much like to see Moon Knight play a pivotal role in the wider ongoing Cinematic Universe. “The honest answer is I don’t know. Because [Marvel boss] Kevin [Feige] is the guy who decides all that stuff,” Slater said. “Look, if it was up to me, he would be part of the Avengers. It’s absolutely not up to me, but I think that is the goal!”
While fans may not know for quite a while if the newest MCU character teams up with other heroes, it appears Slater and the rest oftheMoon Knightteamhave cooked up something truly unique. “We did a huge show in a very intimate way, in a way that really feels personal,” series director Mohamed Diab said. “I’m so proud of that.”
What should get fans even more excited about the upcoming series are Isaac’s comments, as the actor told Empire not too long ago that he was initially hesitant to return to bigger budget projects and that he was craving smaller, indie works. However, after reading throughMoon Knight’s script and realizing how handmade it all felt, Isaac believed the series was exactly what he was searching for, sayingMoon Knightis the first character studyin the MCU since Iron Man.
With the expansive multiverse continuing to be the big focus in the MCU, it will be interesting to see how a more personal, character-study story likeMoon Knightwill tie into it all. The six-episode series will also seedirecting duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorheadhelming a couple of the episodes. Joining Isaac will be Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, the series' main antagonist, Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart/Midnight Man, Lucy Thackeray as Donna, and May Calamawy in an undisclosed role.
