When the question is asked to fans of theFalloutgames about which they feel is the best in the series, many will often point towards 2010’sFallout: New Vegas. With its tongue-in-cheek dialogue andnotable companions that travel with the player across the Mojave Desert, it’s considered a strong addition to the long-running post apocalyptic universe. However, to some fans, there is one element that has been missing from the series for a long time now:Star Wars.

Recently, it’s been reported thatStar Wars Open Worldsis a mod forFallout: New Vegas, which does pretty much what the title would suggest. The fan-made add-on is an ambitious attempt to take Obsidian Entertainment’s beloved open world RPG and give it aStar Warsoverhaul that effectively changes the game completely. According to the report, the mod will have a new story, as well as planets to explore, all of which are built inNew Vegas' engine.

In a video uploaded to YouTube recently, one of the modders, who goes by the username Tank Girl, pieced together a number of elements from the mod to give fans a brief overview of what they can expect. Among other things, the three-minute footage shows pieces from some of the worlds that have been created, as well as a host ofStar Warscharactersand other recognizable elements, such as the AT-AT Walkers. Overall, it’s a very impressive piece of footage which showcases all the painstaking work that is going into this creation from such a dedicated team of modders.

While this does something slightly different to other mods, this is not the first time thatNew Vegashas had people tinker with the code. Last year, somefans remadeNew VegasinFallout 4, which included updating the graphics and redoing the audio with a brand-new cast. It’s mods like these that are proof that the 2010 post-apocalypse title is still being celebrated to this day, and still being tinkered with to improve the game or change it entirely for fun.

While this is not a remake of eitherFalloutorStar Wars, there is an argument to be had thatgames likeNew Vegasare screaming out for a remake. However, this new mod is not only a beautiful homage to the space epic franchise, it’s also a kind of testament to the power of the engine that was used for Obsidian’s game all those years ago. As of now, the mod is still in development, with no proposed release date just yet.

Fallout: New Vegasis available now on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
