Summary
With plenty of snacks to pick from,Minecrafthas no shortage of food options, many of which are staples for most players. While food has been part of the game practically since the beginning, it remains a fairly basic system in the game, with the main updates including new additions.
The idea of food inMinecraftcertainly does not need to change, as it is already an easily understood and effective system, but elements of the food available in the game definitely could use an upgrade. Between annoying downsides to great foods and potential synergy with upcoming blocks, there are clear ways forMinecraft’s food to be updated.

5More Placeable Foods
More Decorative Options
For players who love the building and decorating aspect ofMinecraft, having more food that can be set down as blocks could add a lot of charm to the game. While the cake recently received a new variant with the addition of candles, adding in the potential of a birthday cake, there’s plenty of room for more similar blocks.
With pumpkin pie being around for over a decade in the game, it’s certainly a great option for another placeable food item.Item frames might allow the illusion of placed food, having another cake, pumpkin pie, or even the various stews and soups actually turning into a block would be a wonderful addition to the building side of gameplay.

4Edible Items Around Every Corner
Making Survival Possible In Every Area
With so many locations to explore and biomes to visit, having an ample supply of food or access to food is a necessity for most players. While food in the Overworld and on the surface is plentiful, other locations present a distinct challenge.
Underground, the best bet for food includes rotten flesh and spiders' eyes, finding a mineshaft, or finding glow berries growing. The Nether isn’t much better, and the End is even worse. Having more food availableadds more to the survival aspect of the game,as well as adding more character to magical places, such as the End or the Deep Dark, especially if the food is odd or unusual. With the Ancient City being, well, ancient, barely edible fossilized foods or something more fun like sculk-blue rock candy could easily slot in.

3Stackable Foods
The Importance Of Convenient Food
Soups and stews inMinecraftare the rarely-used and often-forgotten food champions. Given that these foods require a wooden bowl and numerous ingredients, as opposed to just popping raw beef into a furnace for a few seconds, as well as rapidly filling up the player’s inventory as they don’t stack, it’s not any wonder why players stick to solid foods.
Since soups and stews are great food choices,as they restore and maintain saturation very well, the lack of stackability can be seen as a nerf to these potentially powerful foods. While they don’t have to stack up to a full 64, even grouping up to 16 like ender pearls, another valuable item, would make them far more useful.

2Obvious Food Additions
Missing Foods That Are Already In The Game
Even with so many food options in the game, there are a glaring number of obvious additions that just do not exist for whatever reason. With eggs and apples being inMinecraftfor years, some omitted foods are baffling, especiallywhen food like poisonous potatoes exist.
The addition of fried or hard-boiled eggs, apple pie, and more seem like obvious updates needed in the game. Bread is also a great food, as it could potentially allow toast or even sandwiches for players, with the latter costing more food but possibly rewarding more saturation in return. While not every food item or ingredient needs to directly turn into a superior or more complex food, the lack of apple pie when pumpkin pie exists, along with a chocolate variant of cakes, is strange.

1Fast Food Factories
The Intersection Of Redstone And Food
With the upcoming 1.21 update bringing the crafter block, which will add automatic crafting to the game through Redstone devices, the idea of an automated or otherwise smarter furnaceisn’t too far out of the question. Since fully automating crafting is an option inMinecraftnow, automating food is certainly a potential update.
Given the large number of players who invest in the Redstone side of the game, having a new way to mix Redstone engineering and the production of food makes plenty of sense. Whether this would include a furnace powered by Redstone instead of coal oranother standard fuel, the idea of fully integrating fast food into the game would easily change the idea of food farming.
