The vast majority ofMinecraftupdates focus on bringing vast, sweeping changes to the game. That’s no surprise; the more content Mojang manages to put into aMinecraftupdate, the more exciting it is. Past updates like the total overhaul of villages and the Nether’s rework have gone a long way to generate new waves ofMinecrafthype, helping the game flourish. Still, someMinecraftupdates succeed by focusing on the little things, like the introduction of bees. Every once in a while, the game needs smaller updates that focus on new details, in order to provide a moment’s relief for both Mojang andMinecraftfans between major updates.

Minecrafthasn’t had one of these minor updates in a while, but after the Wild Update, it might be appropriate. If Mojang is considering another small update, then it should build an update around new furniture for players to use in their homes. For many years, decoration-mindedMinecraftfans have found ways to emulate tables, chairs, and other furniture, but none of these substitutes are quite as useful or immersive as properMinecraftfurniture would be. Rather than making fans continue toget furniture fromMinecraftmods, Mojang should supply some official furnishings for all the game’s homes.

Potential Furniture in Minecraft

At the moment,Minecraftfurniture is mostly limited to practical blocks like crafting tables, furnace variants, and chests. These blocks all serve their purpose, but for fans eager to immerse themselves in the game and simply relax in theirMinecrafthome, they aren’t enough. Chairs and tables would therefore be a great feature inMinecraft.Proper, basic furnishings like these would go a long way to make bothplayer-made homes andMinecraftvillagesfeel more realistic. Mojang could still give them some special utility too. Tables could hold placed objects in special ways, while placing some chairs together could give players a sofa that they can sleep on.

There’s plenty of storage-driven furniture that would be valuable inMinecrafttoo. For instance, empty shelves could let players organize books and maps in more practical ways than chests alone, while wardrobes could act as larger storage solutions than chests. Aside fromadding new blocks toMinecraft,a furniture update could update some preexisting blocks. For instance, it would be nice if players could place certain objects on carpet, and adding patterns to beds and carpets with a loom would open up all kinds of new decoration opportunities.

The Value in Minecraft Furniture

PastMinecraftupdates have proven that large-scale mechanical changes aren’t the only thing that make the game more interesting. For instance,Minecraft’s various door and fence types made out of different types of wood and stone don’t have significant mechanical benefits over one another, but they makeMinecraftfar more interesting to look at. AMinecraftupdate with furniture would definitely make the game more interesting visually, even if the update only comes with minor new mechanics. After all, Survival isn’t all that matters aboutMinecraft. The Creative side ofMinecraftis important too, and it would hugely benefit from proper furniture pieces.

While there’s a lot of value in adding new furniture toMinecraft,it remains to be seen if such an update is on Mojang’s radar. The Wild Update is still in development, and Mojang has other features like archaeology and biome updates to consider after the Wild Update comes out. Hopefully Mojang takes the time to develop a smaller update focused on something like furniture improvements in the near future.Minecrafthas been changing dramatically in recent years, and as great as those dramatic changes have been, Mojang can’t forget to appreciate the little things. Sometimes a feature as simple as a chair can make all the difference.

Minecraftis available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
