Part of the fun thatMinecraftprovides is in its exploration. There are so many biomes to see, various resources to collect, and a handful of potential objectives to accomplish. This could mean a lot of traveling for the player, which is why mounts are so important to acquire.

There are manyMinecraftanimals that allow the player to ride, whether they can be controlled or not with the help of a saddle. And while each mount can have similar functionality to the various others that are available, all have unique attributes that make them at least somewhat useful to the player.

7Llama

Introduced in version 1.11,Llamasare among theonly tameable mountsthat can also attack a player if that individual chooses to be aggressive toward the creature. That said, llamas have some use despite not being able to move the animal around while riding on it.

Llamas are found primarily in Savanna biomes, most commonly on hills. Players can tame them by repeatedly attempting to ride them and then, once tamed, will be able to equip a carpet as an outfit and a chest for storage. Depending on the strength of the llama, players can store up to 15 objects.

Pigsare the mobs that have beenaround the longest. They have also been the sole creatures that players have been able to ride before horses were added to the game. Luckily, the idea of riding a pig has evolved over the years.

Pigs have long been able to wear a saddle, which allows players to get on top of the pig. However, it used to be that pigs could not be controlled while someone was on them. That changed with the addition of the Carrot on a Stick, which allows players to point a pig in a specific direction and have a pig move towards the carrot at all times.

5Strider

While traveling around the Overworld can be challenging, things get a lot harder when headinginto the Nether. The hell dimension ofMinecraftoften has difficult terrain, and it is made worse when there are large pools of lava that can be rather difficult to get across.

Luckily,Stridersexist, which serve as the few peaceful mobs of the Nether. When equipped with a saddle, a Strider can be ridden and players can control which direction they move with a Warped Fungus on a Stick. The only downside is that Striders can only walk normally on lava, as not being in there will cause them to shiver.

Despite moving at a slow speed, camels have a great height to them that allows players to avoid being hitby hostile mobson the ground. In addition, camels are able to fit two players at once, which is perfect for multiplayer servers and those who want to deal with just one mount.

3Donkey

WhileDonkeysmay not seem like an appealing option at first, they are a delight to have as they, like llamas, can carry stuff for the player. However, whatmakes donkeys betteris that they can be moved around like a normal horse, even if it doesn’t have its speed.

Once a donkey is tamed, it can be equipped with both a saddle and a chest. The chest automatically allows players to store up to 15 items on the donkey. Every donkey has a similar speed and jump height, so there’s no need to breed a bunch to get a better donkey necessarily.

2Horse

Despite the saddle’s long existence inMinecraft, it wasn’t until 2013 whenHorseswere added to the game. These creatures can spawn in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and each horse has a unique combination of running speed and jump height. Players can spend time breeding to get a horse to the perfect statistic on both.

Regardless of the difference in speed, horses are typicallymuch faster than humans. This allows players to travel quickly along the terrain, especially in flatter areas where horses can just run across one-block barriers with ease. These creatures are typically found in flatter terrain, such as plains and savannas.

1Mule

Donkeys and horses can be bred, which allows players to acquire and tamethe rather rareMules. These creatures look like donkeys but have brown fur and can move a lot quicker than a donkey thanks to the inheritance of various horse traits.

Mules can be bred to go nearly as fast as the fastest horses inMinecraft. This helps if their parent is also a horse that has an incredibly fast speed and can jump to ridiculous heights. Mules have nearly all the benefits of a horse while also being able to carry up to 15 items if equipped with a chest.
