That is precisely what Reddit user Odd_Neighborhood1716 was attempting to do duringtheRed Dead Redemption 2epiloguewhen players take control of John Marston. And though it’s unclear whether the heist yielded any notable loot, the undertaking left something to be desired in terms of elegance, as the fan attempted to escape the crime scene by jumping on John’s horse just as the train reached a bridge. What could have been an epic Western stunt hence ended with the protagonist leaping face-first into a bridge arch before clumsily rolling over into the grass off to its side.
John still managed to get away relatively unscathed, as his graceless escape attempt only cost him around 15% of his total health pool. After the player got up, they even found Rachel, one ofthe best thoroughbred horses inRed Dead Redemption 2, facing away from them, as if to allow them to keep a shred of dignity, as noted by one fan reacting to the footage of the mistimed jump.
While this memorable clip underlines some of the risks of robbing a moving train inRed Dead Redemption 2, doing so still has its advantages compared to more conservative methods like ambushes. Namely, stopping a train will almost always result in an automatic bounty, whereas merely boarding one can provide players with ample time to rob it before authorities get any wiser.
It’s also possible to get the best of both worlds by stopping a train in a tunnel, such as the one on the route from Annesburg to Valentine. A tunnel ambush will never incur a bounty, allowing players to deal with guards and cargo at their own pace. But seeing how low-light shootouts are a challenge in and of themselves, anyone looking to perform a tunnel train robbery inRed Dead Redemption 2would do well to remember that Arthur and John have access to a lantern in the melee section of their weapon wheels.
Red Dead Redemption 2is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
