The developer announcedLayers of Fearsat Summer Game Festa couple of months ago, with this new game being made in Unreal Engine 5. There had been rumors in the past that the team was getting ready to reveal something, with an image posted to Twitter that teased the studio’s next project. Given that this image depicted a heavily scratched painting of a face, a lot of fans most likely assumed it was going to be a newLayers of Feargame. Currently, there is no release date for it, but it’s expected to hit PC and current-gen consoles early next year.
Before this announcement, it was rumored thatBloober Team was doing a remake ofSilent Hill 2, but the developer didn’t comment on whether this was true or not. These speculations came at a time when there was strong belief, along with some leaked content, that Konami’s dormant horror franchise was going to be making a comeback. At the time of writing, there’s still no official word on whether a newSilent Hillgame, or even a remaster, is in the works.
As ahorror game that messes with players' minds, the originalLayers of Fearstood out in the indie horror scene. With its themes of insanity, alcoholism, and art, it was an interesting narrative about obsession and a descent into depression. Some have criticized Bloober for its depiction of mental illness, especially inThe Medium, so it will be interesting to see where the team goes with this upcoming title.
Layers of Fearsis currently in development for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and due out in early 2023.
