TheJurassicParkseries has seen some of the most terrifying prehistoric beasts running rampant, especially in theJurassic Worldfilms. From the genetic hybrid Indominus Rex to the Indoraptor, it looks like the iconic franchise has saved its most intimidating predator for last: the Giganotosaurus (Giga), one that director Colin Trevorrow compares to DC’s Joker.
After two successful box office sequels that sought to propel the franchise in a fresh direction, the upcomingJurassic World Dominion, the third installment intheJurassic Worldsequel trilogy, looks to conclude the entire dino franchise on a high note. The sequel will take place four years after the events ofJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,as the dinos are now roaming free in the wilderness and other urban areas, living and hunting alongside humans after escaping from the Lockwood estate.

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Trevorrow touched on the new villainous dino ready to wreak havoc, likening it to the DC clown. “I wanted something that felt like the Joker,” Trevorrow said of the dinosaur, which comes from the Late Cretaceous period. “It just wants to watch the world burn.” Fans may recognize that the famous line, “watch the world burn,” Trevorrow is referring to comes fromChristopher Nolan’sThe Dark Knight, during a scene in which Alfred is explaining to Bruce how sometimes there is no reasoning with people/things, and that they will just do whatever they want.
Trevorrow also added that Giga comes from BioSyn Valley, the company that stole InGen’s dinosaur embryos in the original film. “BioSyn got the contract to house the dinosaurs that have been captured around the world via various governments,” explained Trevorrow. “They claim it’s a research facility where they can study the pharmaceutical values of the animals. But there’s some other stuff going on.”
On top of the film’s intriguing premise, the cast is a whole other beast. Along with Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, classicJurassic Parkcharacters will be making their return to the big screen. Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler, andJeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolmwill all be returning for the highly-anticipated sequel.
While being box office successes, as they have contained a variety of thrilling sequences and plenty of dinos, the sequel trilogy has become a bit divisive among fans, so let’s just hope that Trevorrow’sJurassic World Dominionis the worthy conclusion that many have been hoping for.Jurassic World Dominion’s cast also includes B.D. Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, Campbell Scott as Dr. Lewis Dodgson, Elva Trill as Charlotte Lockwood, Omar Sy as Barry Sembène, andDeWanda Wise as Kayla Watts. Trevorrow wrote the screenplay with Emily Carmichael based on a story he wrote with longtime collaborator Derek Connolly.
