For the first two seasons, CIA analyst Jack Ryan has battled some high-level enemies, including terrorists in Syria and France, and an autocratic president in Venezuela. He’s an intelligent analyst who is skilled in researching financial information, as well as a strong field agent who can fight and shoot due to his skills as a U.S. Marine veteran.
John Krasinski brings class, strength, emotion, and a light sense of humor in his portrayal of Ryan. Three years after season two ended, the third season of the hit Amazon TV series,Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, is set to premiere sometime this year, while also being renewed for a fourth season. The question is: what will season three bring in store for Ryan?

What Will Happen To James Greer?
James Greer is Ryan’s greatest ally and mentor figure. In season one,they had a complicated partnershipbecause they were both just getting to know each other. However, as the show progressed, Greer recognized Ryan’s potential as a field agent and his ability to encounter hard evidence (financial transactions, weapons of mass destruction, etc.). Near the end of the second season, Greer tells Ryan about his heart condition, which concerns both men because Greer says that he isn’t cut out for working on the field anymore, hinting that Ryan should take his place.
Ryan is very much capable of taking Greer’s position because he’s proven to be an accomplished field agent. He tracked down the Suleiman brothers and prevented an explosive attack on U.S. government officials (including the President of the United States). He also battled the corrupt Venezuelan president and his army while also saving Venezuelan citizens held in captivity. However, Ryan understands that Greer is the biggest reason why he’s had success on the field.
It hurts Ryan that Greer may no longer work on the field, but the mentor figure could still help Ryan on his next mission while working behind a desk. Greer could also have some time torecover and focus on his health, and if he feels up to it, he could return to the field when he feels comfortable. Either way, Greer will continue to play a pivotal role in working with Ryan because he’s an experienced CIA agent who knows how to track down and interrogate suspects, and has knowledgeable investigative skills.
What Happened To Cathy Mueller?
Dr. Cathy Mueller is an intriguing love interest for Ryan in season one because they are both hard-working professionals who are affectionate and passionate towards each other. However, Cathy didn’t appear at all in season two, nor was she even mentioned,which raises a lot of questionsabout where she’s been. Did Cathy and Ryan end their relationship due to their busy schedules and stressful occupations? Or perhaps they just took a break, which is why they agreed their relationship will remain casual.
In season two, during a car ride, Ryan tells Greer and Mike November (the CIA station chief in Venezuela) that he’s single. Despite this, Ryan did sleep with Harriet “Harry” Baumann (a German Intelligence agent in Venezuela), who appears shady and untrustworthy at times due to her connection with Max Schenkel, an assassin responsible for the murder of a U.S. senator (a close friend of Ryan’s). Harriet and Ryan do manage to work well together in order to stop Max from committing more damage.
It has been reported that Cathy will return in season four, which means there’s a good chance she won’t be present nor mentioned in season three. Depending on the third season’s main plot, Harriet could potentially return to the show since she has a good bond with Ryan and is a tough operative like him. Harriet can be a powerful ally for Ryan rather than a romantic love interest, while Cathy will continue her relationship with Ryan in season four sincethey have the best chemistry.
What Will The Next Mission Entail?
So far, this series has been heavily inspired by theJack Ryanfilmsstarring acting icon Harrison Ford. The first season is reminiscent ofPatriot Gamesin terms of Ryan taking on terrorists, including one who has a personal vendetta against Ryan for killing his brother. The second season is similar toClear and Present Dangerbecause the plot takes place in a South American country, where Ryan’s friend is killed during a vehicle ambush. There’s also political corruption, and Ryan works with American soldiers in the jungle to investigate and fight dangerous militia.
For season three, the plot appears to take place in various locations, since production has reportedly begun filming in Prague (the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic) and Italy. Perhaps the premise could involve Ryan and Greer on a secret mission that involves them going to exotic places in order to track down upper-class criminals and/or terrorists, as well as searching for classified Intel. Prague is a luxurious setting, which has been used in several films and T.V. shows, including Tom Cruise’s firstMission: Impossiblefilm, and will be used forChris Hemsworth’s upcomingExtractionsequel.
Will New Characters Be Introduced To The Show?
Aside from Harriet, other crucial well-known characters in theJack Ryannovels could be introduced to the show, including CIA officials John Clark and Robert Ritter. Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell recently portrayed Clark and Ritter, respectively, in the 2021Amazon Prime action feature,Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse. Season three and/or upcoming seasons could potentially see these versions of the characters cross over with Krasinski’s Jack Ryan, thus starting their own universe (the Ryanverse).
Mike November and Marcus Bishop (a former U.S. Navy crewman) were also powerful allies in season two who could return to help provide Ryan and Greer with any military support they need to accomplish their new mission. Aside from saving the world, this new season will undoubtedly reveal more of Ryan and Greer’s personal lives, including Ryan’s military past and Greer’s heart condition. With seasons three and four on the way, Jack Ryan’s journey is just getting started.
