An interesting mod has been released, which swaps out Joel fromThe Last of Uson PC with Arthur Morgan, the gun-slinging protagonist ofRed Dead Redemption 2. It’s certainly interesting to see how Arthur would fit in as part of theLast of Usworld, even if he looks slightly out of place.
The Last of Uson PC has already grown a small-but-dedicated modding community for the game, and the results so far have been great. OnewildLast of Usmod even turns it into a first-person game, working much better than anyone could ever imagine. Many of the mods for the game focus on characters, and it makes sense. The Last of Us' characters are an integral part of the game, so they’ve been singled out as a prime target for modding. Although it’s early days, the modding scene forThe Last of Usis showing plenty of promise, and it’s exciting to see what the community will come up with next.

The mod was created by Redditor Speclizer_, who posted footage of the incredible mod online. What is perhaps most amazing about the mod is that the face is fully rigged, so Joel’s dialogue comes out of Arthur’s mouth perfectly. Admittedly, it is strange to see Arthur without the voice of Roger Clark, but it works in its own way. WithAI voices being used in mods for other games, it’s possible the user could take this one step further in the future and replace Troy Baker’s voice lines with Roger Clark’s voice, but they haven’t yet confirmed any plans for this.
It’s an interesting crossover, to say the least, but not one that is completely shocking. Both Joel Miller and Arthur Morgan are considered some of thebest video game protagonists of all time, playing their own part in emotionally charged stories. Players in the thread had their own suggestions for crossovers to mod next. One player even suggested turning Ellie into Lenny, reuniting one of the best partnerships fromRed Dead Redemption 2.
Despite the early modding success,The Last of Uson PC is still facing an ongoing struggle with the quality of the PC port. Naughty Dog recentlyreleased update 1.0.4.1 forThe Last of Uson PC, although it is yet to make a massive difference to the performance of the game. With the recent news of incredible sales for PlayStation ports on PC, hopefully Naughty Dog remains committed to fixing its latest title. It would be a shame for the game to be left in the state that it’s currently in, just because sales haven’t suffered as a result. With the updates so far, though, that seems unlikely.
