A rumor surrounding the DLC forPokemon Scarlet and Violetis going to make one aspect of the expansions more vital than ever before. Naturally, the DLC should be set to improve on the foundation thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s base game laid down. With the games already having a dramatic story campaign and several paths for players to conquer, that was going to be a tall order from the start. Trickling information regarding the DLC has only heightened the hype for it. Once it releases, it will have a high bar to clear in the eyes of players.
Ever since the announcement ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s planned DLC expansions, there has been a slow leak of information regarding them. The biggest reveals may be the new locations announced for each expansion, Kitakami for Teal Mask and Blueberry Academy for Indigo Disk. In addition, some new Pokemon have already been revealed as well, with Paradox Pokemon based on Suicune and Virizion as well as a new group of Legendary Pokemon. NPCs for both sides of the were also showcased, furthering the intrigue. With this information, players should have at least partial knowledge of what to expect once the DLC launches.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC May Be Required to Have the Series' Best Story
One interesting piece of information to watch has been arumor regarding the nextPokemongamethat holds a connection toPokemon Scarlet and Violet. According to the leaker, Riddler Khu, one of the NPCs introduced in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will have a major connection to the story of the next game. Which character in particular is involved is not specified, leaving further room for interpretation. However, if true, the stakes forPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC will have been raised significantly. Such a move would have repercussions forPokemon’s upcoming expansions as well as future titles.
If it’s true that The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will feature a springboard forPokemon’s next storyline, then thestory ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLCneeds to go above and beyond to justify it. Making a DLC character vital to the next game’s story is a highly unusual move forPokemon. If that is the goal, then the story, especially the parts regarding the character in question, cannot afford to miss the mark. Obviously, the DLC need a strong plotline in order to be worth the price. However, a poor story connecting the generations would hurt not onlyScarlet and Violet, but the next game as well.
Since Nintendo and Game Freak have been focused on promotingPokemon Scarlet and Violetand its expansions, it’s understandable that information onPokemonGeneration 10’s potential featuresis practically nonexistent. The rumors indicate that either a concept from Generation 9 will continue to be significant in Generation 10, or the next generation’s gimmick will be unveiled at least in part during the DLC. This is on top of the character that the rumor refers to needing to be likable and interesting enough to carry the player’s interest. That’s a lot of pressure to put on a full game, much less an expansion.
There has yet to be any confirmation on whether the rumor regardingPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC characters is true, although Ruddler Khu is known to be trustworthy. If it is though, thenScarlet and Violet’s Hidden Treasure of Area Zerowill need to be among the best stories in the series. Using the expansion as a part of region-crossing lore has the potential to be a genius move, but one wrong step could be catastrophic for the game. If the rumor has any merit, neither ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s expansions can’t make any wrong moves regarding writing.
